Responsibilities
- Perform thorough dental cleanings, including scaling and polishing to remove plaque and tartar buildup.
- Conduct patient assessments by taking vital signs, reviewing medical history, and evaluating oral health status.
- Assist in various dental procedures such as prosthodontics, orthodontics, oral surgery, endodontics, periodontics, and pediatric dentistry treatments.
- Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices and post-treatment care to promote long-term dental health.
- Maintain accurate medical records and document all procedures in electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic, Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or similar EMR systems.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations by safeguarding patient confidentiality and handling medical documentation responsibly.
- Collaborate with the dental team including dental assistants and receptionists to ensure seamless patient flow and excellent service delivery.
Experience
- Proven experience working as a Dental Hygienist in a fast-paced dental office or clinic environment.
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, general dentistry procedures, and specialized fields such as orthodontics, prosthodontics, pediatric dentistry, oral surgery, endodontics, and periodontics.
- Familiarity with EMR systems like Epic or Dentrix for efficient documentation and medical coding practices.
- Ability to perform patient assessments including vital signs measurement and medical history review accurately.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations related to medical records management and patient privacy protection.
- Previous experience working alongside dental receptionists or administrative staff to coordinate patient scheduling and records management is preferred.
