Job Summary/Objective
The Kitchen Support role is a member of the HALI Empowerment team. HALI provides a peer-run, recovery-oriented approach for people who have experienced significant mental health or cooccurring life challenges. This role supports the HALI Kitchen by maintaining and tracking supplies for the kitchen and pantry, picking up orders from Long Island Cares and Island Harvest and supporting the Hospitality Lead with making and serving meals.
Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities
- Project positive image of Hands Across Long Island, Inc.
- Track stock and place orders to address needs in the kitchen and pantry.
- Coordinate with kitchen and outreach programs to ensure all needs are being met.
- Pick up orders from Island Harvest and Long Island Cares.
- Organize kitchen stock.
- Promote overall agency vision of recovery, peer support, empowerment, and social justice.
Supports additional tasks and responsibilities as needed to help meet the evolving needs of the team and organization.

Education, Experience, Licenses and/or Certifications
Required:
- Highschool diploma/equivalent
- Food Safety Certification or willingness to complete training.
- Clean, valid NYS driver’s license.
Preferred:
- Willingness to complete the NYS Certified Peer Specialist training
- Experience working in a kitchen and/or ordering for a kitchen
Supervisory Responsibility: This position does not have supervisory duties or direct reports.
Travel Requirements: Travel required for role this role includes weekly pick up at locations in Hauppauge and Melville. A HALI vehicle will be provided.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the role, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching while supporting kitchen operations and organizing supplies.
- Ability to lift, carry, and transport items up to 30 pounds on a regular basis (e.g., food deliveries, pantry stock).
- Ability to load and unload supplies from vehicles and transport items between locations.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle and travel locally within Nassau and Suffolk County for scheduled food pick-ups.
- Ability to work in a kitchen environment, including exposure to heat, cold storage areas, and standard kitchen equipment.
- Ability to communicate effectively with team members, participants, and community partners in both kitchen and community settings.
