Horizon Prosthetics is seeking a skilled and compassionate Certified Orthotist to join our team. The Certified Orthotist will provide high-quality orthotic patient care, including patient evaluation, treatment planning, orthosis design, fitting, modification, follow-up care, and documentation. This role requires strong clinical judgment, attention to detail, and a commitment to improving patient mobility, comfort, and quality of life.
Position Summary
The Certified Orthotist is responsible for evaluating patients with neuromusculoskeletal conditions, functional limitations, or acquired conditions and developing appropriate orthotic treatment plans. This position works closely with patients, caregivers, physicians, therapists, and internal team members to ensure each patient receives safe, effective, and individualized orthotic care.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate patients to determine appropriate orthotic intervention based on diagnosis, functional goals, physician documentation, and patient needs.
- Assess patient factors such as range of motion, muscle strength, gait, posture, balance, skin integrity, pain, sensation, circulation, biomechanics, and activities of daily living.
- Review prescriptions, clinical documentation, and medical necessity requirements to ensure appropriate treatment planning and compliance.
- Develop individualized treatment plans designed to improve function, mobility, stability, comfort, and overall quality of life.
- Measure, cast, scan, fit, adjust, and modify orthotic devices as clinically appropriate.
- Provide patient education regarding use, care, safety, wear schedule, and follow-up needs for orthotic devices.
- Perform diagnostic fittings, functional assessments, gait training, and follow-up adjustments to ensure successful outcomes.
- Document patient evaluations, treatment plans, delivery notes, follow-up care, and functional changes accurately and in a timely manner.
- Coordinate with physicians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, caregivers, and other healthcare professionals as needed.
- Assist with product selection, ordering, fabrication coordination, patient follow-up, and other clinical workflows.
- Maintain a safe, professional, and patient-centered clinical environment.
- Follow all applicable local, state, federal, payer, and company policies and procedures.
- Participate in continuing education and maintain required professional credentials.
- Support the training of residents, students, or other team members when appropriate.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- ABC or BOC certification as a Certified Orthotist required.
- Current licensure, if applicable.
- Strong knowledge of orthotic evaluation, design, fitting, fabrication principles, and follow-up care.
- Ability to evaluate and treat a wide range of orthotic patients, including lower extremity, spinal, and upper extremity orthotic needs.
- Strong documentation skills and understanding of medical necessity requirements.
- Excellent communication and patient education skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with physicians, therapists, and internal staff.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Commitment to compassionate, ethical, and patient-first care.
Preferred Experience
- Experience in a clinical orthotic and prosthetic setting.
- Experience with custom orthoses, bracing, diabetic footwear, spinal orthoses, and lower extremity orthotic devices.
- Familiarity with O&P documentation, insurance requirements, and payer guidelines.
- Experience with electronic medical records and clinical documentation systems.
Work Environment
This position is performed in a clinical patient care setting and may include standing, walking, bending, lifting, casting, scanning, fitting devices, and assisting patients with mobility-related needs. The Certified Orthotist may also work with laboratory staff, administrative staff, and outside referral sources to coordinate patient care.
