Midland Flex Learning Center:
The Midland Flex Learning Center serves as an innovative, adaptive program within Midland Public Schools, specifically designed to support students seeking a nontraditional educational journey. Housed in our new facility on Fast Ice Drive, the center provides a personalized, flexible approach to learning for secondary students. By balancing robust virtual instruction with vital in-person support, local lab experiences, and hands-on project-based learning, the Center ensures that every student—whether recovering credits, seeking an alternative schedule, or looking to re-engage with their education—can earn a distinct Midland diploma on a timeline that fits their life. Through a supportive, relationship-driven environment, the Midland Flex Learning Center ensures every learner has a clear, customized pathway to graduation and future success.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Serves as the certified teacher of record and mentor responsible for the development, customization, and academic delivery of virtual courses aligned with the Michigan Merit Curriculum. Provides day-to-day monitoring and mentoring of students attending the Midland Flex Learning Center, as well as assigned virtual students.
Responsibilities include course content creation, tutoring, leading small-group instruction, delivering targeted academic interventions, and teaching a hybrid schedule of face-to-face and online coursework.
Maintains regular data-driven communication with students and families to facilitate academic achievement and progress toward graduation requirements.

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in the field of education is required

Must possess valid teaching certification with appropriate endorsement for subject area, preferred: DI/DX, GQ, MC

Virtual Education and course creation experience is preferred.

Technical proficiency in utilizing systems such as an Online Learning Management Systems (LMS) and Google Workspace is required.

Familiarity with student information systems is preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Successfully complete district-assigned training by established deadlines. Job-specific training will be provided as available.

Organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines, maintain an organized work environment, and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Maintain a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality with regard to all district-related matters and records.

Create, customize, and maintain online courses aligned with Michigan Standards, including developing new course content and modifying digital curriculum to meet state requirements.

Develop and administer subject-specific assessments to evaluate student competency and support individual learning plans.

Teach face-to-face and online courses, including tutoring, small-group instruction, and targeted academic interventions to support student learning and course completion.

Manage academic and behavioral expectations within the Midland Flex Learning Center academic environment to maintain a safe, professional, and productive classroom, testing, and study area.

Evaluate student academic and social growth, grade assignments in a timely manner, provide constructive feedback through web conferencing, email, phone, or in person, and teach Success Skills to students under your supervision.

Maintain weekly three-way communication with students and families to comply with Michigan pupil accounting requirements and participate in IEP and Section 504 meetings to support required accommodations.

Work collaboratively with Midland Flex Learning Center administration to support student scheduling, Educational Development Plans (EDPs), graduation planning, pathway exploration, academic progress, and successful program completion.

Establish a learning lab and classroom environment that is safe, positive, and conducive to learning while building trusting relationships with students through both face-to-face interactions and technology.

Work effectively with a diverse student population by evaluating student learning, identifying learning styles, implementing interventions, accommodating individual learning needs, and seeking assistance from district specialists when appropriate.

Serve as the primary point of contact for students regarding academic progress, basic technical support, and day-to-day program needs.

Instruct, mentor, and support students through individual, small-group, and classroom instruction while demonstrating strategies that promote academic growth and successful completion of coursework.

Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding academic progress, milestones, expectations, strategies for improvement, and program requirements, including a minimum of three scheduled consultations per family each school year.

Encourage positive student behavior, maintain appropriate classroom expectations, monitor students in a variety of educational settings, report incidents as required, and respond appropriately to emergency situations.

Maintain accurate student records, including grades, attendance, lesson plans, assessments, progress reports, and other documentation required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.

Participate in meetings, professional development, and other district activities to support effective program implementation and continuous professional growth.

Support the administration of state and district assessments in accordance with established procedures and requirements.

Perform additional responsibilities related to supporting at-risk student populations, as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Duties are performed primarily in a school and office setting. The position requires frequent use of a computer, telephone, and other office equipment; regular communication with students, families, staff, and community members; and movement throughout the building and district as needed to perform assigned responsibilities. Occasional lifting, carrying, or moving of materials, supplies, or equipment may be required.
