Equipment Operations Specialist (Medical Equipment / DME)
Affordable Medical Supplies | Plano, TX 75075 | Full-Time | $20.00–$25.00 per hour
Job Type: Full-time Pay: $20.00–$25.00 per hour, based on experience
Schedule: Monday to Friday, occasional Saturdays Work Location: In person — Plano, TX 75075
Important: This is not a traditional delivery driver or warehouse position. Deliveries are only one part of the role. We are looking for someone who can take ownership of our equipment operations, troubleshoot problems, maintain rental equipment, manage inventory, and develop better processes. This role also has a defined path to grow into a broader operations leadership position — see "Room to Grow" below.
About the Position
Affordable Medical Supplies is looking for a DME Equipment Operations Specialist to take ownership of the day-to-day operations of our equipment department.
This is a hands-on position for someone who is mechanically inclined, organized, resourceful, and naturally good at solving problems. You do not need to know everything about DME when you walk through the door, but you do need to be the type of person who can look at a problem, figure out what is causing it, and find a solution.
Our equipment department is small, which means this position has a lot of independence and variety. You may be repairing a lift chair in the morning, organizing rental equipment in the afternoon, preparing equipment for a delivery, and figuring out why a piece of equipment keeps coming back with the same issue the next day.
We are looking for someone who wants to own their department, not someone who needs to be told what to do every step of the way.
What You'll Be Responsible For
- Maintain and organize our DME equipment inventory, including rental equipment and overstock
- Inspect, clean, test, maintain, and repair medical equipment
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and determine the best solution
- Prepare rental equipment for the next customer
- Keep track of equipment that is out, returned, awaiting repair, or ready for rental
- Identify parts, supplies, and equipment that need to be ordered
- Communicate when inventory or repair parts need to be replenished
- Receive and organize incoming equipment and supplies
- Help create and improve processes for equipment maintenance, inventory, and warehouse organization
- Assist with equipment deliveries, installations, pickups, and customer education when needed
- Set up equipment in customers' homes safely and correctly
- Assist with repair events and other company events
- Work with the office team to resolve equipment-related problems and customer needs
- Look for ways to make the department more efficient and prevent recurring problems
- Take ownership of problems and follow them through to completion
The Type of Person We're Looking For
We are looking for a problem solver first.
You may be a great fit if you are someone who:
- Is mechanically inclined and enjoys figuring out how things work
- Can troubleshoot instead of immediately calling someone else for the answer
- Is comfortable learning new equipment and systems
- Notices when something isn't working efficiently and looks for a better way
- Can work independently without constant supervision
- Is organized and able to keep track of multiple priorities
- Communicates when something needs attention
- Takes pride in doing a job correctly
- Is comfortable wearing multiple hats in a small business
- Can think on their feet when something unexpected happens
- Is willing to get their hands dirty
- Doesn't give up when the first solution doesn't work
If you are the person everyone calls when something breaks because you can usually figure out how to fix it, we want to talk to you.
Requirements
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation (required)
- Ability to pass a background check (required)
- 1+ years of hands-on experience in a mechanical, technical, or repair trade (required)
- DME or medical equipment experience (preferred, not required)
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs independently, more with assistance (required)
Experience
DME experience is preferred, but not required.
Experience in any of the following may be helpful:
- DME or medical equipment
- Equipment repair
- Field service
- Maintenance
- Automotive
- HVAC
- Appliance repair
- Mobility equipment
- Facilities maintenance
- Construction
- Mechanical or technical trades
We are much more interested in how you think and solve problems than whether you have worked in DME before.
What This Job Is NOT
- This is not a traditional delivery driver position
- This is not a large warehouse environment
- You will not spend your day driving a truck or moving pallets
- You will not spend your entire day doing repetitive warehouse tasks
- You will not be given a checklist for every situation and expected to simply follow it
This is a hands-on equipment operations role where we expect you to learn, think, solve problems, and take ownership.
Schedule & Compensation
Pay: $20–$25/hour, depending on experience and skill level
Schedule: Monday–Friday, with occasional Saturdays for repair events, special events, or business needs
Physical Requirements
The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:
- Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, and use hands to inspect, test, and repair equipment
- Must be able to lift and/or move equipment up to 50 lbs independently, and heavier items with team-lift assistance
- Must be able to safely load, unload, and maneuver medical equipment in vehicles and in customers' homes
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus
Why This Position Matters
Our equipment department is a major part of our business. We need someone who will treat it like their own department and take pride in keeping equipment organized, operational, ready to rent, and ready to serve our customers.
If you are looking for a job where you can clock in, be told exactly what to do, and clock out, this probably isn't the right position.
If you like figuring things out, fixing things, improving processes, and being the person people can count on when something goes wrong, we'd love to meet you.
Room to Grow
This role has a real path forward for the right person. As you take ownership of the equipment department and prove you can run it independently, there is room to grow into a broader operations role — including team coordination, vendor and compliance responsibilities, and eventually a leadership position within the company. We're not looking to fill a seat; we're looking to build our next operations leader from the ground up.
