Our client, a publicly traded life sciences company, is seeking an experienced Interim Chief Financial Officer to provide strategic financial leadership during a critical period of growth and capital formation. This executive will serve as a key partner to the CEO and Board of Directors, leading financing activities, investor relations initiatives, and capital markets strategy while helping position the company for future success.
The ideal candidate will be a highly visible, externally facing finance leader with a demonstrated track record of raising capital, engaging with investors, managing banking relationships, and supporting publicly traded organizations through significant growth milestones.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the senior financial executive and strategic advisor to the CEO and Board of Directors.
- Lead and execute capital raising initiatives, including interaction with investors, investment bankers, and legal advisors.
- Drive investor relations activities and assist in the preparation and delivery of investor presentations, roadshows, and financing discussions.
- Present the company's financial strategy and business positioning to external stakeholders independently or alongside the CEO.
- Develop and maintain relationships with banking partners, institutional investors, and capital market participants.
- Provide leadership through upcoming financing events and strategic business initiatives.
- Oversee financial operations and collaborate with outsourced accounting, finance, and SEC reporting teams.
- Support public company reporting requirements and maintain familiarity with SEC filing processes related to financing activities.
- Partner with executive leadership to establish financial strategy and support long-term business objectives.
- Operate effectively in a lean organizational environment without a large internal finance infrastructure.
Required Qualifications
- Prior experience as a Chief Financial Officer or senior finance executive within the life sciences, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or related healthcare sectors.
- Proven success raising capital and executing financing transactions for life sciences companies.
- Strong capital markets expertise, including investor relations, roadshows, banking relationships, and financing execution.
- Experience within a small or mid-sized public company environment.
- Familiarity with SEC reporting and compliance requirements associated with public companies and capital raises.
- Ability to commit full-time to a single client engagement. Active consulting practices, multiple client commitments, or board obligations that would limit availability are not preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related discipline; CPA and/or MBA preferred.
Preferred Background
- Public biotechnology or life sciences company leadership experience.
- Experience guiding organizations through financing rounds, investor outreach, and growth-stage capital strategies.
- Track record of working closely with scientific or clinical executive teams.
