Weatherization Inspector Assistant Job Description
Job Purpose:
The weatherization assistance program (WAP) was founded in 1976 and Wisconsin has become one of the top states to implement energy saving measures in homes throughout the state. A weatherization inspector will come alongside local agencies in SE Wisconsin that we contract with and preform different types of inspections in compliance with the state and federal agencies and the department of energy. Assist low-income families to improve the energy usage and health & safety hazards in homes.
Essential Duties:
· Assist the lead auditor or final inspector.
· Run combustion and blower door testing.
· Identify health and safety hazards such as checking gas leaks.
· Contact customers and answer questions.
· Organize paperwork for each job.
· May be needed to conduct pre-inspections, emergency furnace, water heater inspections, or other inspections as needed.
· Schedule inspection appointments (Via phone call, text or email).
· Typically, complete 5-7 inspections a day (Each takes around 30 minutes).
· Take pictures and document findings for each home.
· Identify homes in deferral conditions to be denied by agency.
· Install LED light bulbs when homes are deferred; if needed.
· May be required from time to time to bring vehicles in for maintenance.
· Must be able to pass initial asbestos and lead paint training.
· Additional training opportunities will come up when offered.
Skills/qualifications:
· Must be available to work: 7:30am – 3:30pm, Monday – Friday, office hours may be extended as the needs of the business necessitate.
· Must be able to work more then 40 hours per week when duties cannot be performed within normal work schedule.
· Type at least 40 wpm; abilitity to utilize standard office equipment (copier, printer, computer, etc).
· Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record.
· Knowledge in the use of spreadsheets and written reports using Microsoft Office and other programs.
- Be organized, self-motivated and goal orientated.
· Construction backround is a plus.
· Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus.
Experience/Education/Training/Certifications:
- Must have a GED or high school diploma.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
o Perform site assessments, operation of hand operated power tools, climbing ladders etc.
o Occasional lifting of heavy objects, crouching, kneeling, crawling, ducking, climbing and squatting.
While performing the duties and responsibilities of this position, the employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee will regularly sit, frequently talk, listen and use hands to operate, handle or touch equipment/tools. Specific vision requirements for this position include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. During the performance of his/her duties, the employee will regularly lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.

o Home visits with potential unpleasant conditions is required; exposure to outdoor weather conditions and poor housekeeping practices. Housing conditions may include insect or vermin infestations, unpleasant odors or allergens, pet feces, raw sewage and unsanitary living conditions.
o During site inspection may be exposed to possible cuts, scrapes, bumps, bruises, sprains, slivers or eye injury. Potential exposure to traffic accidents, animal bites, falls, overhead hazards or hostile environments. Other potential health exposures to lead, mold and moisture issues.
