Title: Nuclear Medicine Technologist
2 DAYS A WEEK & PRN - (Wednesdays, Fridays)
Position Summary:
At the direction of a qualified physician, performs all diagnostic radioisotope imaging using independent judgment and initiative in the utilization of nuclear medicine equipment for the diagnosis of disease. Services the needs of patients in a manner that promotes patient satisfaction, privacy and safety.
Staff member demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of our patients. The individual demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span. Staff member is able to identify and categorize each patient’s specific needs. Staff member demonstrates knowledge and proficiency in computer programs necessary to accomplish job functions.
Primary Functions:
- Safely handle all radioactive isotopes from delivery to disposal according to State of Florida Radiation Control/NRC guidelines.
- Daily gamma camera QC and imaging.
- Record keeping for State of Florida Radiation Control/NRC.
- Transcribe data from source documents to data outcome database for record keeping.
- Provide reports to physician for interpretation and followup.
- Radiation dosimetry monitoring for staff.
- Injection of radiopharmaceuticals.
- Assist with all treadmill and pharmacological stress tests.
- Maintain practice and patient confidentially and protect the physicians license.
Secondary Functions:
- Insertion of intravenous access.
- Call back test results to patients and fax to referring physicians.
- Any other duties as directed by any supervisors.
- Tracks nuclear testing to insure that all patients receive their results in a timely manner.
Safety/Office Standards:
Employee follows guidelines, policies, and procedures as stipulated through the orientation process and as outlined in manuals: Employee Handbook, Nuclear Department manual, HIPAA Regulations, Compliance Program, Bloodborne Pathogens, Safety and Emergency Preparedness, Hazardous Materials Management Plan, TB manual, and Bio-Medical Waste Management Plan.
Qualifications:
Must be a graduate of a formal nuclear medicine program, National Board certification, and trained on the job specifically for cardiology. Care and consideration of patient privacy and patient satisfactory are of utmost concern.
