Position Overview: (Ophthalmic Technician and/or Clinical Research experience required.) The Clinical Research Technician will conduct study visits in accordance with good clinical practices, standard operating procedures, study protocols, and contractual specifications. This is a full-time position.
The Clinical Research Technician is responsible for the coordination of a variety of research visits through study closure. This position will work independently in the acquisition of specimens; image capture; extraction and entry of data; and maintenance of complete and accurate subject data and regulatory documentation.
Duties/Responsibilities
Handles and schedules a variety of medical procedures/tests and visits as needed by the study protocol(s). Performs components of medical workup and assessment of vital signs as needed, which may include obtaining blood and urine specimens from subjects.
May assist in the processing and shipping of blood, urine, and serum specimens in accordance with IATA and other applicable regulations.
In conjunction with the principal investigator and other members of the research study team, provides study specific education to the participant and their family. This may include study specific procedures, diary/study log documentation, proper dosage/administration, and disease treatment.
Perform ETDRS manifest refraction and best corrected visual acuity examinations per study protocol. This may include low-luminance testing if specified by the study protocol. The Technician will maintain independent certification with each entity certifying examiners for the duration of studies in which they perform this assessment.
Perform ophthalmic imaging which may include Optical Coherence Tomography (SD-OCT), Fluorescein Angiography (FA), Fundus Autofluorescence Imaging (FAF), and Color Fundus Photography (CFP). Performance of ophthalmic imaging requires proficiency in each relevant imaging equipment and system. The Technician will maintain independent certification with each Independent Reading Center for the duration of studies in which they perform imaging.
Maintains documentation required by study sponsors including source documentation, case report forms and study, regulatory, and subject binders. Responds to queries related to study images and ensures appropriate resolution.
Take part in a variety of professional development programs to ensure understanding of most current methodologies, practices, and philosophies as applied to the relevant subject population and research area.
Requirements:
- 1+ year clinical experience (Ophthalmology/Retina preferred)
- Relevant experience and Certifications preferred
- HS Diploma or equivalent
- Ability to prioritize and handle multiple assignments simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
- Knowledge of ophthalmic procedures specific to vitreo-retinal practice
- Excellent skills in data collection and project documentation, including the use of databases and study-specific reporting software.
- Must be an excellent team player, working well as part of their team and encouraging of those around them
