Join the Information Technology team as a Network Specialist VI and help drive the evolution of the agency's enterprise network! In this role, you'll design, implement, and support a wide range of advanced technologies spanning data center, cloud, wireless, firewall, VPN, and voice related systems. You'll actively monitor and troubleshoot complex infrastructure, apply hands on command line expertise, and work with vendors and internal teams to keep services secure, stable, and high performing. Work Hours
The position works an eight-hour schedule between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm, 40-hour week, Monday - Friday with occasional work schedule variance as necessary. Occasionally work additional hours. Hours may change based on business need.
Teleworking may be considered if certain working conditions are met. The candidate must have permanent residency within the state of Texas and must be able to meet in-office requirements, which can vary among different sections (i.e. report to office 1 day/month, 3days/week, etc.). Travel reimbursements are not provided for teleworking.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with an associate's degree.
- Six (6) years of full-time work experience supporting network systems and/or communications infrastructure in an enterprise environment.
- Experience supporting the implementation and management of large Infrastructure projects and initiatives.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in information systems, computer science or related field.
- Cisco Unified Call Manager Enterprise
- Session Border Controller (SBC) administration and SIP trunk management
- Enterprise voicemail and auto-attendant system administration
- Cloud-based unified communications or calling platform
- Enterprise routing and switching in a multi-site WAN environment
- Enterprise firewall administration including VPN configuration
- Cloud-based Security Service Edge (SSE) or SASE platform
- Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA) policy configuration and administration
- Network performance monitoring and capacity management
- Cloud provider networking in a production environment
- Hybrid cloud-to-on-premises connectivity
- Experience with applying NIST and CIS controls to systems.
Substitutions:
One (1) additional year of the full-time minimum experience in complex enterprise network management and administration may substitute for each year (30 semester hours) of the required education with a maximum of 60 semester hours (two years).

In this role you will:
Technical / Operational Support
Architectural Support
- Configures, maintains, and troubleshoots enterprise routers and multilayer switches including dynamic routing protocols (EIGRP, BGP), VLANs, spanning tree, QoS, and gateway redundancy
- Administers enterprise firewalls including access control policy, NAT, site-to-site and remote access VPN, and threat inspection
- Executes network change management activities in alignment with agency change control procedures; documents configuration changes and maintains accurate, up-to-date network diagrams
- Supports the network infrastructure that underpins the agency's server virtualization and cloud migration initiatives, ensuring proper connectivity, routing, and performance to meet operational and architectural requirements
- Reviews proposed network or UC architecture changes submitted by junior staff and provides recommendations to ensure compliance with agency standards and best practices.
Administration
- Reviews tool sets regularly for efficiency, cost, and performance.
- Prepares disaster recovery plans and participates in disaster recovery hot site testing.
- Completes cloud networking training aligned to team certification objectives; pursues relevant cloud provider networking certifications
- Assists in establishing and documenting cloud network architecture standards and operational runbooks
- Creates and maintains accurate documentation including network diagrams, SOPs, runbooks, and configuration baselines
- Utilizes the agency's service management platform (ServiceNow) to track and manage incident, changes and service requests in accordance with established processes.
- Contributes to development and review of architecture decisions, documentation, and runbooks, ensuring team members understand and adhere to approved designs.
- Delivers cross training, informal mentoring, and structured knowledge sharing to strengthen team capability.
- Provides advanced technical guidance and direction to junior and mid level engineers in voice, network, cloud, and security domains.
- Serves as a senior technical escalation point for complex issues requiring advanced problem solving skills and architectural judgment.
- Reviews technical deliverables prepared by junior staff and provides recommendations to ensure alignment with agency standards and best practices.
Performs other duties as assigned, including responding to incidents when on-call 24 hours a day during assigned rotation.
