Job Overview
ALPI is hiring its first dedicated in-house technical resource. This person will own the systems that keep our operation running: our product database, and the APIs that move data between our platforms, the internal software our warehouse and print shop depend on, and our day-to-day IT support.
This is a hands-on, build-and-fix role rather than a strategy role. You will inherit systems that were built quickly and need stabilizing, and you will be the only technical person in the building — so we are looking for someone who is comfortable setting priorities, working independently, and explaining technical trade-offs to non-technical colleagues. You will work closely with Operations, but you own the technical side of the business
Duties
Product Data & Database Management
- Own the product database end to end — structure, data integrity, and ongoing maintenance.
- Manage product attributes, specifications, and pricing data, along with product images and other digital assets.
- Build and maintain reliable ways to share product data and assets with customers, sales reps, distributors, and downstream platforms.
- Handle bulk imports and exports, data cleanup, de-duplication, and validation rules.
- Produce queries, exports, and reporting for Operations, Sales, and leadership.
API Development & Integration
- Troubleshoot, stabilize, and document existing APIs.
- Design and build new APIs and integrations connecting the product database, warehouse system, print shop software, and third-party or customer platforms.
- Implement monitoring, error handling, and alerting so failures are caught before they reach the floor.
- Maintain clear API documentation and manage keys, credentials, and access securely.
Application Support & Development
- Take ownership of the in-house warehouse management system (WMS) — diagnose and resolve defects, improve reliability, and extend functionality as the business grows.
- Support, maintain, and improve the print shop software.
- Assess inherited code and make honest build-vs-buy-vs-rebuild recommendations where a system is not worth maintaining.
- Establish basic engineering practices: source control, testing, backups, and a safe way to deploy and roll back changes.
Internal IT & Systems Administration
- Build out and administer 1Password across the organization — rollout, vault structure, user provisioning, policy, and end-user training.
- Manage the user account lifecycle: onboarding, offboarding, and access to company systems. (Active Directory, Microsoft 365, etc.)
- Provide day-to-day support for workstations, printers, peripherals, and network issues; coordinate with outside IT and software vendors as needed.
- Maintain basic security hygiene — multi-factor authentication, patching, backups, and cyber security awareness.
Documentation & Continuity
- Document systems, code, credentials, and procedures so that no critical system is a black box.
- Maintain a visible, prioritized backlog and communicate status and timelines to leadership.
- Partner with Operations to translate business needs into practical technical solutions.
Requirements
- 3+ years in software development, application support, or a technical operations role.
- Proficiency in at least one modern backend language (Python, C#, JavaScript/Node.js, PHP, or similar).
- Strong SQL and relational database skills — schema design, complex queries, performance tuning, and data migration.
- Demonstrated experience building and consuming REST APIs, including JSON, authentication, and error handling.
- A track record of reading, debugging, and improving code written by someone else with limited documentation.
- Working front-end skills (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) sufficient to build and maintain internal tools and interfaces.
- Practical general IT administration knowledge — user accounts, endpoint setup, printers, and password management.
- Clear communicator with non-technical staff; able to work independently, set priorities, and see work through without supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience applying AI tools to real business problems — LLM APIs, workflow automation, document or image processing, or AI-assisted development.
- Experience with WMS, ERP, PIM, or e-commerce platforms.
- Background in manufacturing, distribution, or the print industry.
- Digital asset management or image processing at scale.
- Experience as the sole technical resource at a small business — comfortable being the whole department.
- Cloud or hosting experience (Azure, AWS, or similar) and version control with Git.
What Success Looks Like
First 30 days: Inventory every system, credential, and codebase. Document the current state and identify the top points of failure.
First 90 days: Highest-impact API and WMS failures stabilized. 1Password fully deployed and adopted. A documented, prioritized backlog in place.
First year: Core systems are reliable, monitored, and documented. Manual workarounds are measurably reduced, and there is a clear roadmap for what we build next.
