Job Overview:
The Part-Time Social Media & Content Creator will be responsible for strengthening Naperville Area Humane Society’s online presence and helping the organization tell its story, promote adoptable animals, increase community awareness, and drive engagement across digital platforms. This role will oversee NAHS’ website and social media channels while creating compelling, on-brand content that inspires people to follow, engage with, volunteer, donate, adopt, foster, and participate in events and programs.
The ideal candidate is a creative, highly organized storyteller who understands social media trends, knows how to create engaging visual and written content, and is passionate about Naperville Area Humane Society’s mission. This role will work closely with the Marketing & Development team to ensure NAHS’ messaging is consistent, timely, engaging, and aligned with organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage NAHS’ social media platforms, including developing content calendars, creating and scheduling daily posts, monitoring engagement, responding to messages and comments, and staying current with platform trends.
- Create engaging content featuring adoptable animals, shelter programs, events, fundraising initiatives, staff, volunteers, and community partners.
- Develop and execute strategies to grow social media following and engagement, increase reach, and expand awareness of NAHS within the community.
- Manage and maintain the NAHS website, including updating content, events, adoptable animal information, programs, photos, announcements, and other time-sensitive information.
- Assist in creating creative marketing materials for digital and print use, including social media graphics, flyers, email graphics, event materials, signage, and promotional pieces.
- Capture and coordinate photo and video content for social media, website, campaigns, events, and other organizational needs.
- Develop compelling storytelling and messaging that communicates the impact of NAHS and encourages community members to adopt, foster, volunteer, donate, attend events, and get involved.
- Monitor social media analytics and website performance and use insights to improve content, engagement, reach, and audience growth.
- Promote fundraising campaigns, special events, community partnerships, and organizational initiatives across digital platforms.
- Support email and digital communications, including creating or providing content for newsletters, fundraising appeals, event promotions, and other communications.
- Maintain a consistent NAHS brand and voice across social media, website, and creative materials.
- Stay up to date on social media trends, content formats, and best practices, identifying creative ways to increase NAHS’ visibility and reach.
- Work collaboratively with staff to gather stories, photos, videos, and information that can be turned into engaging content.
- Help increase awareness of NAHS locally and nationally by identifying opportunities for partnerships, collaborations, cross-promotion, and community-focused content.
- Assist with live coverage of events and community activities, capturing content and promoting NAHS in real time when appropriate.
- Assist with other marketing, communications, and creative projects as needed.
- Occasionally assist around the shelter when needed.
Job Qualifications:
- Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in social media, content creation, marketing, communications, or a related field. Experience working in a nonprofit or animal welfare organization is a plus.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create compelling and engaging content for a variety of audiences and platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to create engaging social media content that increases reach, engagement, and audience growth.
- Strong knowledge of major social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and LinkedIn, and familiarity with platform-specific best practices and trends.
- Experience creating photo, video, graphic, and written content for social media and digital platforms.
- Experience with graphic design and content creation tools; Canva experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with photography and video creation/editing
- Experience managing and updating website content; Wix experience is a plus.
- Basic understanding of SEO, website analytics, email marketing, and digital communications.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple content calendars, projects, and deadlines.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and identify creative opportunities to increase NAHS visibility and engagement.
- Comfort working collaboratively with staff across departments to gather information, stories, photos, and other content.
- Strong creative thinking and problem-solving skills, with an ability to adapt content and messaging to current trends and organizational priorities.
- Ability to monitor social media messages and comments and respond professionally, appropriately, and in a timely manner.
- Willingness and ability to attend occasional evening and weekend events to capture content and promote NAHS in the community.
- Comfort working in an animal shelter environment and safely interacting with cats and dogs.
- Passion for animal welfare and strong alignment with the mission and values of Naperville Area Humane Society.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Working Conditions:
- Part-time position, approximately 20-25 hours per week, with a regular schedule of Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
- Flexible hours may be required to accommodate events, content creation opportunities, campaigns, and organizational needs.
- Occasional evenings and weekends will be required for special events, community activities, and other content opportunities.
- Occasional local travel may be required for events, meetings, community partnerships, and content creation.
- Shared office workspace with a combination of independent work and collaboration with NAHS staff.
- Ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time for social media management, website updates, content creation, and communications.
- Ability to stand, walk, and move around for extended periods of time, particularly during events and while capturing photo and video content.
- Occasional exposure to a noisy, busy, or fast-paced environment, including the animal shelter and special events.
- Comfort working around, walking, and safely handling cats and dogs.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and time-sensitive content needs, particularly around animal stories, fundraising campaigns, events, and organizational announcements.
