Overview
The Champaign County Humane Society is a non-profit (tax exempt) organization with a staff of 40 people and an annual operating budget of $3 million. Revenue sources include animal adoption fees, fundraising events, individual and corporate donations, planned gifts, and the Society’s endowment and investment funds.
Position
The bookkeeper maintains the general ledger; processes accounts payable and receivable; reviews invoices and purchase orders for accuracy and communicates with vendors when necessary; processes bi-weekly payroll for staff of 40; prepares quarterly payroll tax documents; makes end-of-month journal entries; reconciles bank and investment account statements; maintains all accounting files; compiles materials requested for the annual audit; and works with the Executive Director on budgeting.
The CCHS bookkeeper reports directly to the Executive Director.
The bookkeeper can work remotely but must be present at the Humane Society two days per week to print checks and keep up on filing and communication with staff.
Qualifications required:
- Minimum five years experience using Quickbooks
- Working knowledge of payroll accounting and payroll tax reporting
- Excel knowledge

Salary Range: $23.00 to $26.00/hour
