We are Rancho Tree Service, offering innovative Utility Vegetation Management, Environmental and Arboriculture solutions to leading Utilities. We are currently hiring for multiple positions across our organization. This listing is for the position of Traffic Control Flagger throughout the San Diego and Orange County regions.
Position Summary
Rancho Tree Service is seeking dependable, safety-focused Flaggers to support traffic control operations around active vegetation management work zones. This role is essential to protecting the safety of our crews, the traveling public, and pedestrians while VM operations are underway. Flaggers work outdoors in all weather conditions, staying alert and responsive to changing site conditions throughout the shift.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Direct and control traffic flow using regulatory signs, cones, barricades, and other traffic control equipment
- Set up, maintain, and remove temporary traffic control (TTC) setups in accordance with site plans and applicable standards
- Monitor the worksite continuously and adjust signage, barricades, and cones as conditions change
- Communicate clearly and consistently with VM crew members, General Foremen, and motorists to maintain a safe operating environment
- Control and monitor access to the worksite for pedestrians and drivers
- Maintain a safe work area and immediately report hazards, unsafe conditions, or near-misses to the supervisor
- Assist the crew with setup and breakdown of the work site as needed
- Record license plate numbers of traffic control violators and report incidents to the supervisor
- Respond quickly and appropriately to changes in traffic patterns, weather, or site conditions
- Maintain professionalism and situational awareness at all times while on duty
Qualifications
- Prior flagging experience preferred; current flagger certification required or ability to obtain prior to start (per state/utility requirements)
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical labor in outdoor conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and wind
- Strong communication skills and ability to follow verbal and written safety instructions
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work a full-time schedule with variable site locations
- Comfortable working near roadways, heavy equipment, and vegetation management operations
- Valid driver's license
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred
