Catholic Health is seeking a detail-oriented and highly motivated Inpatient Medical Coder to join our Health Information Management team. In this role, you will be responsible for reviewing and coding acute care inpatient records, ensuring accurate reimbursement, supporting clinical research, and maintaining compliance with federal and state regulations.

What You'll Do
- Assign accurate ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and CPT codes through comprehensive review of medical records
- Code primarily acute care inpatient, skilled nursing facility (SNF), and rehabilitation records
- Support coding for Emergency Department, Urgent Care, Interventional Radiology, and Same Day Surgery records as needed
- Analyze medical records for completeness, consistency, and compliance
- Submit physician queries when clarification is needed regarding documentation
- Work collaboratively with the Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) Team
- Maintain coding productivity and quality standards
- Generate reports and meet established deadlines
- Stay current with coding regulations, reimbursement guidelines, and industry best practices
Qualifications
Education
One of the following is required:
- Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management (HIM), OR
- Associate degree in Health Information Technology (HIT), OR
- RHIA or RHIT certification, OR
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
Certification Requirements
- Successful completion of the Catholic Health Coding Assessment
- Maintain all credentials through AHIMA continuing education requirements
Experience
- Six months of coding experience in an acute care setting preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Successful candidates will demonstrate:
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and CPT coding systems
- Understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities
- Ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, CDI specialists, finance teams, managers, and healthcare professionals
- Excellent organizational and prioritization skills
- Proficiency with healthcare software, electronic medical records, and computer systems
- Ability to adapt to changing regulations and process improvements
- Commitment to quality, accuracy, and continuous improvement
Working Conditions
- Remote work schedule for qualified applicants located in CA, SC, NJ, GA, NC, OH, TX, FL, and IL
- Primarily sedentary office-based work
- Extensive computer and keyboard usage

Pay: $31.35 - $40.45 per hour
