We are seeking an experienced, dependable, and service-focused Banquet Captain to lead our banquet service team. Your Role
As a Banquet Captain, you will oversee the setup, service, and breakdown of assigned banquet events while providing direction to the banquet service team.
You will be responsible for carefully reviewing Banquet Event Orders (BEOs) and ensuring each event is executed accurately according to the client's contracted details and hotel standards. Strong leadership, communication, organization, and attention to detail are essential to success in this position.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and understand BEOs before each event and communicate event details and assignments to banquet staff.
- Lead banquet servers and other assigned team members throughout event setup, service, and breakdown.
- Ensure meeting rooms and banquet spaces are set according to BEO specifications and hotel standards.
- Verify tables, linens, china, silverware, glassware, and other event items are clean, properly placed, and presentation ready.
- Confirm that food, beverages, equipment, and other event-specific items are correctly identified and provided to the appropriate function.
- Coordinate the setup and breakdown of plated meals, buffets, receptions, coffee breaks, bars, and other food and beverage stations.
- Ensure food and beverage service occurs according to established event timelines.
- Maintain knowledge of event menus, ingredients, preparation methods, and service expectations.
- Anticipate guest needs and respond promptly and professionally to requests.
- Maintain clean, organized, and professional banquet spaces throughout each event.
- Oversee banquet bar setup, service, and breakdown while ensuring responsible alcohol-service requirements are followed.
- Mix and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages when needed.
- Follow established cash-handling, guest-check, and event-billing procedures and ensure charges are accurately finalized.
- Communicate changes, concerns, or special requests promptly to Banquet and Food & Beverage leadership.
- Support and coach banquet team members to maintain consistent service standards.
- Work collaboratively with Culinary, Conference Services, Stewarding, and other hotel departments to ensure seamless event execution.
- Follow all food safety, sanitation, alcohol-service, hotel, and departmental policies and procedures.
- Assist with other banquet and Food & Beverage responsibilities as business needs require.
What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate is someone who:
- Has at least 2 year of banquet or food and beverage service experience.
- Previous Banquet Captain or supervisory experience is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrates strong leadership and can provide clear direction to a team.
- Has exceptional attention to detail and understands the importance of accurately following BEOs.
- Is organized and able to manage multiple priorities and events in a fast-paced environment.
- Communicates professionally with guests, clients, coworkers, and leadership.
- Takes ownership of assigned events from setup through breakdown.
- Understands various banquet and food-service styles.
- Has basic math and cash-handling skills.
- Is comfortable using computers and hotel/event systems.
- Maintains a positive, professional, and guest-focused attitude.
- Is committed to continuous learning and leadership development.
Requirements
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience required.
- Must be at least 21 years old to serve alcoholic beverages.
- TIPS, CARE, or equivalent responsible alcohol-service certification required or must be obtained within the hotel's required timeframe.
- Ability to meet the physical demands associated with banquet setup, service, and breakdown.
- Must be dependable and available to work based on event and hotel business needs.
Schedule & Availability
This is a full-time hospitality leadership position. Banquet schedules are driven by events and business levels, so candidates must have flexibility to work mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events.
