Job Overview
Elementary school in District 26 (Fresh Meadows) is hiring a (10 month position) Family Worker position to assist the School Assessment Team. Responsibilities include coordinating evaluations and IEP meetings, communicating with parents, maintaining student records and compliance paperwork, and working closely with school psychologists, social workers, teachers, and other service providers. Applicants should be comfortable using computers and programs such as Outlook, Teams, Excel, and Outlook, and should have strong communication, organization, and follow-through skills. Being fluent in another language is a plus
Responsibilities
- Handle outreach and provide support services to children, parents, and teachers by facilitating the special education evaluation process. Assume administrative and clerical duties to meet the needs of the workplace.
- Coordinate with the school psychologist, teachers and service providers/evaluators to set up necessary testing, evaluations and meetings. Follow up with involved parties to make sure allassessments, meetings and documents are completed by their compliance date.
- Browse and enter student-specific data in the Special Education Student Information System– such as opening cases, uploading necessary documents, documenting events, and running reports to view data and ensure compliance is met.
- Act as liaison between the parent and the School Assessment Team. Keep track of parentletters to ensure cases are opened in a timely manner. Contact parents when necessary,obtain consent when applicable, receive and respond to parent’s inquiries and resolveissues by addressing their concerns. Compile any other documents needed to facilitate aseamless IEP process, disseminate finalized evaluation documents and reports to parents,and retain records related to parent activity.
- Ensure spreadsheets, logs and reports are accurately kept to track case completion and assist in case management.
- Prepare and maintain confidential student files.
- Retrieve and transmit student records and data.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs, such as Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc., to ensure our job is done efficiently.
- Utilize ATS system when needed for reports, attendance records or exam history.
- Assist parents who speak foreign languages by coordinating phone meetings with DOEInterpretation Services and translating IEP related documents through DOE TranslationServices.
- Coordinate special education bus and/or accommodations.
- Manage nursing referrals by communicating with various NYCDOE departments and ensuring proper documentation is obtained and uploaded.
- Participate in ongoing training sessions to keep up to date on new information in regard to SESIS workflow, translation services, assistive technology, nursing referrals, request for assistance guidance, implicit bias, sexual harassment, etc.
- Perform a critical role in the Turning 5 process by opening and processing referrals, keeping a log of assessments and dates to ensure compliance is met, scheduling preschool visits for testing and observations, outreach to parents to obtain preliminary information - including consent, coordinating IEP meetings between the parent, preschool teachers and providers, and sending home finalized documents.
Pay: $20.94 - $31.24 per hour
