Job Summary
The Assistant Manager plays a critical role in overseeing the daily operations of the sign and large format print shop. This position bridges the gap between front-end customer service and back-end production. The ideal candidate will assist the Owner in managing workflow, ensuring product quality, and general shop production. You will be hands-on with both clients and equipment, requiring a strong mix of technical printing knowledge and leadership skills.
Key Responsibilities
1. Production & Workflow Management
Oversee daily print production: Manage the queue to ensure all orders are produced accurately and on time.
Hands-on operation: Set up, operate, and troubleshoot large format printers (roll-to-roll ), vinyl plotters, and laminators.
Quality control: Inspect all finished products (banners, rigid signs, vehicle graphics, decals) for color accuracy, sizing, and finishing quality before client pickup or installation.
Pre-press tasks: Assist with file preparation, color management, and ripping files using standard industry RIP software.
Light Fabrication and Assembly of Interior retail signs and graphic components.
2. Customer Service & Sales
Client consultation: Greet walk-in customers, answer phone inquiries, and consult with clients on the best materials and solutions for their signage needs.
Basic Estimating & quoting: Generate accurate quotes, invoices, and work orders using Shopvox management software.
Issue resolution: Handle customer complaints or reprints professionally and efficiently, maintaining a high standard of client satisfaction.
3. Inventory & Equipment Maintenance
Stock management: Monitor inventory levels of substrates, vinyl, inks, and finishing supplies. Assist with ordering and vendor relations.
Routine maintenance: Ensure all equipment is properly cleaned, calibrated, and maintained according to manufacturer schedules. Arrange for technical service when required.
Shop organization: Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workspace.
Qualifications & Skills
Experience: Minimum 2–3 years of experience in the sign, wide-format, or commercial printing industry. Previous management experience is highly preferred.
Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of large format printing processes, substrates (Coroplast, Foamcore, Dibond, acrylic, banner material), and finishing techniques (mounting, laminating, contour cutting).
Software Proficiency: * Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign).
Experience with RIP software (e.g., Onyx, Caldera, VersaWorks, RasterLink).
Competence with CRM or print shop management software (e.g., Corebridge, Cyrious, Shopvox).
Soft Skills: Excellent communication, multitasking, and problem-solving abilities. High attention to detail.
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand for extended periods during production runs.
Ability to lift and move heavy materials, such as rolls of vinyl or large rigid substrates (up to 50 lbs).
Manual dexterity required for weeding vinyl, applying application tape, and precise cutting/trimming.
Pay: $21.00 - $25.00 per hour
