Columbia Gear Corporation is seeking a skilled and dependable General Machinist to join our manufacturing team in Avon, Minnesota. Under the supervision of the Manufacturing Supervisor, this position is responsible for setting up and operating manual machines including turret lathes, mills, drills, saws, and grinders to machine precision parts according to engineering specifications.
We are looking for individuals with strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate manual machining equipment including lathes, mills, drills, grinders, and saws
- Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings, and engineering process sheets
- Determine dimensions, tolerances, setup requirements, and machining sequence
- Align and secure fixtures, cutting tools, and materials
- Calculate and adjust machine controls including speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth of cut
- Perform first-piece and in-process inspections using precision measuring instruments
- Make tool changes and size adjustments as needed
- Operate multiple machines as assigned
- Train new operators when necessary
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Strong mechanical aptitude and mechanical dexterity
- Ability to read and understand blueprints and technical documents
- Basic knowledge of machining tools and measuring equipment
- Ability to work independently with little supervision
- Manufacturing or machining experience preferred

- Ability to work accurately with fractions, decimals, and measurements
- Effective communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
Physical Requirements
- Frequent standing, walking, lifting, and machine operation
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with moving mechanical parts, temperature changes, and airborne particles
