Groundsmen
The Grounds Person is responsible for maintaining the overall appearance, safety, and cleanliness of the campus grounds at Long Island University. This role ensures outdoor areas are well-kept, functional, and aesthetically pleasing for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

Maintain lawns, trees, shrubs, flower beds, and landscaped areas

Perform mowing, edging, trimming, and pruning

Plant, water, fertilize, and care for greenery and seasonal plants

Remove leaves, debris, litter, and snow from walkways and grounds

Operate and maintain groundskeeping equipment (mowers, trimmers, blowers, etc.)

Assist with irrigation system maintenance and repairs

Apply pesticides and fertilizers in accordance with safety regulations

Maintain outdoor facilities including sidewalks, parking areas, and athletic fields

Support campus events by setting up and breaking down outdoor spaces

Identify and report hazards, damages, or maintenance needs

High school diploma or equivalent preferred

Prior experience in landscaping, groundskeeping, or facilities maintenance is a plus

Basic knowledge of horticulture and plant care

Ability to operate grounds maintenance equipment safely

Valid driver’s license (may be required)
