Outdoor Grounds Maintenance - Seasonal
This is a temporary part-time position for the summer season, which we anticipate will last for up to twelve weeks (aprox. mid-June to mid-August). The position is 20 hours per week, Monday - Friday, with an occasional weekend needed.
This position supports the Ecology and Environment Team with the general care and attention to the overall health, stability and balance of the Motherhouse grounds and environment.
Essential Duties
· Ensure a safe environment for Sisters, visitors and guests to the property
· In consultation with the Groundskeeper, assist with repairs for garden beds, sheds, fencing, and berry cages
· Mow and trim of all gardens, arbors and labyrinth weekly
· Maintain hiking trails as needed by mowing pathways and clearing brush
· Keep up with equipment maintenance (clean, oil as necessary)
· Assist with volunteer groups that come for work projects during the week
· Assist with clearing downed trees and fallen branches
· Assist with installing signage needed for events
· Assist in harvest and delivery of produce and eggs to Food banks
· Assist with chicken care as needed: feed and clean coop
· Assist with special projects as needed
· Perform other duties as assigned
Education and Experience:
Required: High school diploma or equivalent; Previous experience in outdoor maintenance; Basic skills for operating and maintaining tractors and small lawn equipment; Basic mechanical experience / knowledge; Small engine / diesel engine knowledge or repair; Must have valid driver’s license
Preferred: Safety training certification for tractor operation; Chemical safety training /certification; Working carpentry, plumbing, and/or electrical experience
Special Job Features:
· This job operates in an outdoor setting and in all types of weather. This role routinely uses hand tools and small equipment
· Occasional weekend availability required as needed
Candidates must pass criminal clearances and drug screen.
