Job Summary
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) for Community Development Services (CDS) (HOURS ARE Mon/Wed/Fri: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Tue/Thu: 8:00 AM – 12:30 PM & 2:30 PM – 6:00 PM )plays a key role in helping individuals with developmental disabilities build skills, foster independence, and participate fully in their communities. Working under the Maryland Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) framework, this position supports individuals in pursuing personal goals, exploring interests, and engaging in meaningful day activities that promote inclusion, growth, and self-advocacy.
Duties
- Support individuals in participating in community-based activities such as volunteering, recreation, cultural events, and educational opportunities.
- Implement individualized CDS service plans that reflect each person’s goals, strengths, and preferences.
- Assist individuals in building social, vocational, and daily living skills through hands-on experiences and community engagement.
- Encourage and promote self-advocacy and decision-making, fostering independence and confidence.
- Facilitate opportunities for individuals to build relationships and natural supports in the community.
- Provide safe and reliable support during transportation to and from community activities.
- Maintain accurate documentation of services provided, progress toward goals, and any observations of changes in condition or behavior.
- Communicate effectively with families, supervisors, and team members to ensure quality service delivery.
- Advocate for the rights, dignity, and inclusion of each individual.
Skills
- First aid and CPR certification preferred.
- Experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities in community-based programs is highly desirable.
- Strong ability to motivate, encourage, and engage individuals in diverse activities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with individuals, families, and community partners.
- Knowledge of CDS and Meaningful Day principles under DDA Maryland.
- Ability to follow individualized service plans and document progress accurately.
- Patience, creativity, and flexibility to adapt to individual needs and community settings.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are often required.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $19.00 - $22.00 per hour
