Duties
- Prepare treatment rooms and sterilize dental instruments using aseptic techniques to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff.
- Assist dentists chairside during procedures such as restorations, endodontics, prosthodontics, and pediatric dentistry, providing necessary tools and materials promptly.
- Take dental X-rays, including 3D scans, ensuring proper positioning and image quality while adhering to HIPAA regulations for patient privacy.
- Manage electronic medical records (Open Dental), accurately documenting treatment details, medical history, vital signs, and dental coding.
- Support patient care by taking vital signs, explaining procedures clearly using dental terminology, and addressing questions about treatment plans.
- Coordinate with the dental receptionist to schedule appointments, confirm patient information, and manage medical documentation efficiently.
- Maintain infection control standards by following strict protocols for sterilization, handling of medical imaging equipment, and maintaining a clean clinical environment.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Dental Assistant in a general dentistry or pediatric dentistry setting with familiarity in dental assisting procedures.
- Proficiency in Open dental is preferred, but not required.
- Knowledge of infection control practices, aseptic technique, anatomy knowledge related to dentistry, and dental terminology.
- Ability to operate dental X-ray equipment safely and effectively; certification in X-ray technology preferred.
- Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations concerning medical records and patient confidentiality.
- Excellent communication skills to explain procedures clearly to pediatric and adult patients alike.
