JOB TITLE: Housekeeper/EVS Technician
REPORTS TO: Clinical Administrator
JOB SUMMARY
The Environmental Services (EVS) Technician/Housekeeper is responsible for maintaining the Surgical Center in a clean, sanitary, safe, and orderly condition. The EVS Technician performs routine, between-case, and terminal cleaning activities in accordance with Center policies and established infection-prevention and environmental-cleaning practices.
The EVS Technician collaborates with the Administrator, Clinical Supervisor, Infection Prevention personnel, and clinical staff regarding cleaning requirements, infection-prevention practices, room readiness, and environmental concerns affecting patient care.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to read, understand and follow simple directions. High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Previous environmental services, housekeeping, or healthcare cleaning experience preferred.

- Maintain confidentiality of resident information and uphold all residents’ rights while maintaining dignity and privacy for each individual resident.
- Must have ability to make light conversation while working around patients, guests and employees. Must have the ability to communicate with staff and public in a friendly, courteous and helpful manner.
- Interest in the welfare of the patients and visitors.
- Must be able to work around unpleasant odors and illnesses.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Clean and disinfect clinical and non-clinical areas of the Center in accordance with established housekeeping, sanitation, and infection-prevention policies and procedures.
- Perform operating room cleaning between cases and terminal cleaning at the conclusion of the surgical schedule according to established Center procedures.
- Clean and disinfect Pre-Op, PACU, procedure areas, patient-care areas, waiting areas, restrooms, offices, and other assigned spaces according to established schedules and requirements.
- Use Center-approved cleaning and disinfecting products according to manufacturer instructions, including required concentration, dilution, application, contact time, and safety precautions.
- Knowledge of chemicals, names and use/dilutions.
- Identify chemicals by name.
- Proper use of chemicals.
- Knowledge of Safety Data Sheets and where they are located.
- How to read and understand.
- Handle contaminated linen, regulated medical waste, trash, sharps containers, and other waste according to policy and applicable safety requirements.
- Maintain and stock linen and EVS supplies and communicate supply needs to the appropriate personnel.
- Follow appropriate procedures for blood and body-fluid spills and other environmental contamination.
- Follow standard precautions as set forth by O.S.H.A. regulations.
- Wearing gloves. Frequent hand washing.
- Use of other personal protective equipment.
- Understanding and following isolation procedures.
- Assist with total cleaning of isolation precaution rooms in a timely manner.
- Needs to familiarize self with the use and protection of equipment for blood borne pathogens as stated in the OSHA Blood Borne Pathogens Standard.
- Monitor cleaning products, hand sanitizers, and other assigned environmental supplies for expiration dates, integrity, and appropriate storage.
- Inspect assigned areas during cleaning activities and promptly report damaged surfaces, malfunctioning equipment, leaks, safety hazards, or other environmental concerns to the Administrator and appropriate clinical leadership.
- Assist with operating room turnover, room readiness, stocking of designated supplies, and movement of furniture or equipment as assigned and consistent with training and policy.
- Handle instruments or clinical equipment only when specifically assigned, appropriately trained, and competency-validated, and in accordance with established infection-prevention and safety procedures.
- Maintain cleaning equipment and EVS storage areas in a clean, organized, safe, and secure condition.
- Complete assigned cleaning logs, checklists, and other required documentation accurately and timely.
- Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI), infection prevention, safety, emergency preparedness, staff education, meetings, and other Center activities as assigned.
- Protect patient privacy, dignity, and confidentiality and conduct environmental-services activities in a manner that minimizes disruption to patient care.
- Promote professional communication, teamwork, accountability, and a positive environment for patients, visitors, physicians, and staff.
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS
Perform other environmental-services responsibilities as assigned by the Administrator and appropriate to the individual's education, training, competency, and assigned responsibilities.
