SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Works under the general supervision of the Street, Drainage & Sanitation Field Supervisor or on-site supervisor.

None. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or GED; must be able to obtain Texas CDL-B within six (6) months from date of hire.
A minimum of six (6) months experience in performing construction work requiring the use of equipment similar to or the same as assigned to this position.
KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of routine construction maintenance and repair methods used in water distribution/wastewater collection systems; knowledge of applicable safety procedures and practices.
SKILLS:
Skill to communicate orally; skill in performing work requiring strength and agility in all weather conditions; skill in lifting heavy objects; skill in preventative and minor maintenance repair on tools and equipment; skill in operating the assigned equipment; skill in using hand tools to perform manual labor tasks.
ABILITIES:
Ability to follow oral directions; ability to identify and correct potential safety hazards; ability to manipulate things with the hands; ability to coordinate hand and foot movements; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships; ability to maintain physical activity over prolonged periods of time; ability to lift, push, and load/unload heavy objects; ability to regularly lift objects approximately 50-120 pounds.
Any work-related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above required knowledge, skills, and abilities is an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Works effectively with other employees to repair or replace water or sewer service lines, water or sewer mains; makes water and sewer taps; installs or repairs fire hydrants; unstops sewer lines; installs two-way clean-outs in sewer service lines; takes water samples for bacteriological analysis; sets up barricades when required to protect employees and the public; performs routine maintenance on vehicles, tools, and equipment; function as crew chief in his/her absence; sorts various materials; reads, understands, and follows written and oral job instructions (English); writes reports by hand; uses good judgement to work safely and use equipment properly; hear clearly when working around equipment or in street and alley traffic, using proper safety precautions; lifts and carries up to fifty (50) pounds, and pulls, pushes, or drags up to 120 pounds of installation and repair equipment or materials; climbs, crawls, kneels, squats, twists, bends, and stoops for extended periods of time while performing installations, repairs or while reading both digital and dial meters; works in trenches; works indoors and outdoors in extreme temperatures including heat, cold, temperature swings, and inclement weather; some exposure to mechanical, electrical, explosive, fume, odor, dust, chemical, and waste hazards; hears and sees clearly when working in and around traffic while using proper safety precautions; serve on standby crew for after hours emergency work as required; communicates effectively with the public and other city employees.
