Together with the management team, the Shift Leader is responsible for managing the daily team and floor operations of our bakery, ensuring our guests have a world class customer service experience. You and the management team, work hand in hand and should always communicate and consult with each other.
The FOH Shift Leader reports to the Assistant General Manager and General Manager.
Operations:
- Spends the majority of time servicing our guests with food and beverage and providing the utmost hospitality.
- Oversee and manage the shop floor of our bakery. Ensure compliance with our operational standards, company policies, health & safety laws, and our handbook guidelines.
- Manage diligent and efficient daily shifts which may include decision making, daily team briefing pre-shift meetings for both AM and PM shifts, task delegation and people positioning while upholding standards, product quality and cleanliness.
- Being in charge of proper opening and closing procedures and setting the pace for the team.
- Working on daily line management so guests are served efficiently.
- Be prepared to jump into any position meaning advanced proficiency in cashier, bar and table service.
- Ensure the shop floor is service ready at all times.
- To be able to switch yourself and your team into a ‘’ready to go’’ mode as the day becomes busier.
- Be prepared for a high energy, high volume, high speed environment whilst keeping a composed manner.
- Must be able to handle the pressures of simultaneously coordinating a wide range of activities and recommend appropriate solutions to problems as they arise on the shop floor.
- Completes job responsibilities and performance objectives in a timely and effective manner and in accordance with Dominique Ansel policies and procedures.
- Assists in the control of wastage.
- Communicate 86’s to the management and chef teams.
- Assists in the management of pre-orders.
- Completes weekly inventory of packaging items to assist managers with ordering.
- Maintains the organization of all storage spaces.
- Does not have the ability to make hiring, firing, or scheduling decisions.
Sales:
- Adhere to Dominique Ansel standards and service levels to increase sales and minimize costs.
- Together with the management team, discuss sales goals and strive to meet them using your floor team.
- Train team members on proper upselling.
- Drive team incentives on a daily basis.
Hospitality & Customer Service:
- Be on the front line offering world class guest service in all areas. Listen and respond to complaints if a swift resolution is possible and escalate accordingly by taking client details to enable a call back and a swift resolution from the management team.
- Responsible for checking daily the consistent high quality of food preparation, food appearance and service through visual checks and tastings with all issues being fed back to Executive Pastry Chef and FOH management team.
- Be a passionate ambassador of our brand and mission while having a fun experience.
- Understand company social media policy and uphold the image and presence as per the guidelines.
- Work on attractive merchandise and food display.
Cleanliness/Safety:
- Keep excellent sanitary practices in line with DOH standards for food handling, general cleanliness, and maintenance of dining areas and trains the team to do the same
- Do multiple daily floor checks.
- Maintain a consistently high bakery image, including, tidiness on the floor, proper uniforms, and appearance standards.
- Together with the BOH managers, looks over porters to ensure regular floor sweeps, bathroom checks, bussing, deep cleans etc.
- Ensure a safe working and guest environment to reduce the risk of injury and accidents.
- Completes accident reports promptly in the event that a guest or team member is injured (always consulting with the management team).
Training:
- While managers still lead the training, the shift leader is there to motivate employees, encourage our core values to work as a team to ensure that food and service meet appropriate standards.
- Develop employees by providing ongoing feedback. Also encouraging team member feedback.
- Keeps management team promptly and fully informed of all issues (i.e. problems, unusual matters of significance and positive events) and takes prompt corrective action where necessary or suggests alternative courses of action.
- Maintains a favorable working relationship with all company employees to foster and promote a cooperative and harmonious working climate which will be conducive to maximum employee morale, productivity and efficiency/effectiveness.
- Monitor punctuality. All lateness issues to be reported to management team.
In addition to these responsibilities, as a FOH Shift Leader, the most important thing is to prioritize our guest service, which requires maintaining flexibility and jumping in wherever you are needed. This may include covering shifts for those in their team that are absent, for instance. Or work holidays. We work in a hands-on industry. You are a leader for our floor team, and a role model.
