Security Officer

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Primary Purpose: To serve the educational process by assisting the professional staff in protecting students and staff members from harm or distractions and protecting school owned property from loss or damage.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Assist visitors by giving directions and needed explanations.

Report school rule offenders to school authorities.

Patrol parking lot to prevent vandalism to cars.

Enforce student safety regulations.

Assist school administration with enforcing rules concerning parking violations, reckless driving, etc.

Patrol school grounds to detect unauthorized persons or vehicles, check cars for parking authorization and check to determine if vehicles are parked in restricted areas.

Provide security services for after-hours school functions when requested.

Respond to night and weekend calls when buildings are found open or broken into.

Report open and broken into buildings to designated personnel.

Act as liaison with public safety authorities on all matters affecting school security.

Consult with building principals and head custodians regarding methods of increasing security in and about the premises of each school.

Know and practice the proper safety procedures in operating machinery and equipment as required for the job.

Know and practice the proper safety techniques in lifting, climbing and performing other job duties.

Correct any unsafe conditions that may exist in the work area. Any conditions that are not correctable by you are to be reported to the supervisor immediately.

Attendance at work is an essential function.

Other duties as assigned by the supervisor or designee.

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum Experience:

Three years of experience as a security officer or police officer or successful completion of Level II Training Course and test through a licensed school

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Education/Certification:

Licensed Texas Peace Officer preferred
Valid Texas driver’s license
Eligible for coverage under the District’s vehicle insurance program

Special Knowledge Skills:

Ability to work with students and juvenile aged children
Demonstrated knowledge of physical security measures and their application

OTHER INFORMATION:

Equipment Used: Alarm systems, fire extinguishers and security equipment. Working Conditions: Mental/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Strenuous walking, standing and/or climbing; operation of a motor vehicle, specific hearing requirements, control of sudden violent or extreme physical acts of others, rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. May be subjected to adverse and hazardous working conditions, work outdoors in varying climate conditions, drive in all different areas of District at odd hours, on call 24 hours a day.
