High Volt Electric is a growing public works electrical contractor specializing in municipal, state, and federal infrastructure projects throughout Southern California. Our portfolio includes water and wastewater facilities, utility infrastructure, site development, and other public infrastructure improvements.
Position Summary:
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Project Engineer, with experience in public works construction, to support the delivery, planning, coordination, execution, and closeout of infrastructure projects throughout Los Angeles, Ventura, Orange, San Bernardino, and Riverside counties.
The Project Engineer will assist Project Managers and Foremen to ensure compliance with contract requirements, safety regulations, budgeting, and technical documentation. This role is ideal for a construction professional seeking hands-on experience in preconstruction, project management, scheduling, procurement, and field coordination.
The successful candidate will possess strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to effectively communicate with owners, subcontractors, contractors, vendors, and project stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
· Support Project Managers in the execution of public works construction projects.
· Review contract documents, plans, specifications, and bid packages.
· Prepare and track Requests for Information (RFIs), submittals, shop drawings, and material approvals.
· Coordinate procurement of materials, equipment, and subcontractor services.
· Maintain project documentation, correspondence, and records.
· Assist with project scheduling and schedule updates.
· Track project costs, change orders, and budget performance.
· Coordinate utility companies, inspectors, consultants, and public agency representatives.
· Participate in project meetings and prepare meeting minutes.
· Support field operations by working closely with Foremen.
· Assist with project closeout, punch lists, as-built drawings, and warranty documentation.
· Ensure compliance with contract requirements, public agency standards, and company quality control procedures.
· Promote and support company safety programs and regulatory compliance.
Required Qualifications
· Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and Word.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
· Valid California Driver's License and ability to travel to project sites throughout Southern California.
Preferred Qualifications
· Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field
· 3–5 years of experience in construction management for public works projects.
· Familiarity with prevailing wage requirements and public contracting procedures.
· Experience using Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, Bluebeam, Procore, or Autodesk Construction Cloud.
· OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
Compensation
· Salary: $70,000 – $90,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
