Position Summary
The Custodian supports the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Distribution Center by performing routine custodial and housekeeping services necessary to maintain clean, safe, sanitary, and professional facilities. The Custodian is responsible for cleaning administrative offices, warehouses, restrooms, break rooms, common areas, entrances, and other assigned spaces in accordance with contract requirements and established cleaning schedules.
The Custodian helps maintain a clean working environment that supports daily operations while ensuring compliance with applicable safety, environmental, and sanitation requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Routine Custodial Services
- Perform daily, weekly, monthly, and periodic custodial services in accordance with established schedules.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, and clean floors.
- Dust furniture, fixtures, windowsills, and horizontal surfaces.
- Clean interior glass, doors, and entrance areas.
- Clean offices, conference rooms, break rooms, hallways, and common areas.
- Maintain clean and orderly workspaces throughout assigned facilities.
Restroom Cleaning & Sanitation
- Clean and sanitize restrooms, sinks, toilets, urinals, mirrors, partitions, and fixtures.
- Restock restroom supplies including soap, paper towels, and toilet tissue.
- Empty and sanitize waste receptacles.
- Report plumbing deficiencies or damaged fixtures requiring maintenance.
Waste Removal
- Collect, remove, and dispose of trash and recyclable materials.
- Replace trash liners as required.
- Maintain waste collection areas in a clean and orderly condition.
- Transport waste to designated collection points.
Floor Care
- Sweep and damp mop hard surface flooring.
- Vacuum carpeted areas.
- Spot clean floors and carpeting as needed.
- Maintain entrances and walkways free of debris.
Supply Management
- Monitor custodial supply levels.
- Notify the Maintenance Project Manager or Production Control Clerk when supplies require replenishment.
- Properly store cleaning chemicals, equipment, and supplies.
- Operate custodial equipment safely and maintain equipment in good working condition.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow OSHA requirements and all Navy, USACE, DLA, state, and federal safety regulations.
- Utilize appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Handle cleaning chemicals in accordance with manufacturer instructions and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
- Immediately report unsafe conditions, spills, damaged equipment, or facility deficiencies.
- Maintain safe and organized work areas.
Qualifications and Required Experience
- Minimum one (3) year of custodial, janitorial, housekeeping, or commercial cleaning experience preferred.
- Experience cleaning commercial, industrial, or institutional facilities.
- Ability to safely use standard custodial equipment and cleaning products.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting federal or Department of Defense facilities.
- Knowledge of proper cleaning techniques and sanitation procedures.
- Experience operating commercial floor care equipment.

Physical Requirements & Conditions
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, and reach for extended periods.
- Ability to push and pull custodial carts and cleaning equipment.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions as required.
- Ability to safely operate custodial equipment and cleaning tools.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain all required DLA and military installation access credentials.
- Must successfully pass all required background investigations and pre-employment screenings.
Pay: $25.00 - $33.00 per hour
