The mission at HVJ North Texas, a leading specialty engineering firm in Texas, is to deliver high-quality geotechnical services that meet client expectations while adhering to applicable industry standards, project specifications, and company procedures.
HVJ North Texas welcomes applications from students seeking Curricular Practical Training (CPT) and other university-approved internship programs. This position provides hands-on experience supporting geotechnical engineering projects, laboratory operations, materials testing, reporting, and quality management activities while working alongside experienced engineers and technical professionals.
This is a paid position. Compensation will be provided for all hours worked and will be based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, and applicable company policies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform geotechnical laboratory testing and/or field inspections as assigned in accordance with project requirements and applicable standards.
- Assist with soil sample management, storage, organization, and inventory tracking within the laboratory and warehouse.
- Perform advanced testing under the direction and supervision of senior laboratory personnel and engineering staff.
- Accurately document testing, inspections, and work performed using company-approved procedures and reporting methods.
- Document work performed by the number of tests completed or time spent, as appropriate.
- Generate reports and perform data entry with a high degree of accuracy.
- Communicate test results and project information when authorized and directed.
- Provide support to the Geotechnical Team on engineering and laboratory projects as needed.
- Assist project managers, engineers, laboratory personnel, and other staff with project-related tasks.
- Maintain laboratory equipment, work areas, records, and sample storage areas in a clean and organized manner.
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and quality management requirements.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by management.
This is a paid, project-based position with a flexible schedule.
- Work assignments are provided based on project workload, client demands, and operational needs.
- This position does not have a regular or guaranteed weekly schedule.
- Hours may vary from week to week depending on project requirements.
- Candidates must be willing to accept assignments on short notice when opportunities become available.
- Occasional early morning, evening, or weekend work may be required based on project schedules.
- No minimum number of hours is guaranteed.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Students currently pursuing or graduates holding a degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Geological Engineering, Construction Management, Environmental Engineering, Engineering Technology, Geology, Earth Sciences, or a related field are encouraged to apply.
- Previous laboratory, construction materials testing, geotechnical, or engineering experience is preferred but not required.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate work.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications and data entry.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Ability to maintain professionalism and a strong work ethic in a client-focused environment.
- Reliable transportation to report to assigned work locations when scheduled.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform work in laboratory, office, and field environments.
