Position Summary: To develop relationships with youth that are involved with the arts to
promote positive family and peer relationships, development and decision-making.
Reports to: Mentoring Coordinator
Position Responsibilities:
- Complete application process to include references, interview, and background check
- Monthly supervision and professional development with the Mentor Coordinator and
team
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all participants and case activity
- Clear communication with the Guardian(s), Caseworker and Mentor Coordinator
- Thorough and descriptive weekly notes outlining youth development and plan progress
- Execute a program evaluation, which includes creation of pre and post assessment for
student mentee and instructor mentor, weekly notes to monitor progress and
participation, research other programs that may be relevant for comparison,
development and implementation
Role: The mentor’s role is to support their mentees by:
- Empowering them to resolve current issues and to develop coping strategies for the
future
- Provide a model for a healthy, trusting relationship through clear communication and
setting appropriate boundaries
- Acknowledging strengths, talents/gifts and encouraging them to find ways to use them
- Be an active listener and offer support and encouragement, when appropriate
- On occasion, engage in activities outside of the home to help expose youth to new
opportunities and experiences
