eiNetwork manages and supports technology services for 46 independent libraries at more than 77 locations throughout Allegheny County and the City of Pittsburgh. Our enterprise-class technology infrastructure includes a fiber based, wide area network interconnecting virtual servers at two Pittsburgh area data centers, over 2,500 PCs supporting 1,500+ employees and communities throughout Allegheny County.
We are currently seeking a Desktop Engineer to work as part of our collaborative team. The Desktop Engineer designs, implements, administers, and supports enterprise technology services. This role supports server, desktop, Microsoft, cloud, security, and systems platforms to ensure reliable, secure, and sustainable technology services.
The Desktop Engineer owns assigned projects and complex support issues from planning through implementation, documentation, and operational handoff. The role also serves as an escalation point for incidents not resolved by Service Desk or other technical staff and works with internal teams, stakeholders, vendors, and outside technical resources to maintain reliable library technology services.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Design, implement, administer, and support enterprise technology solutions across server, desktop, Microsoft, cloud, security, and systems environments.
- Provide engineering support for complex infrastructure and endpoint issues, including troubleshooting, root cause analysis, remediation, documentation, and follow-up.
- Administer and maintain Microsoft SCCM for software deployment, patch management, endpoint inventory, reporting, compliance baselines, collections, task sequences, and client health.
- Develop and maintain SCCM task sequences for operating system deployment, device provisioning, driver management, application installation, and endpoint lifecycle management.
- Engineer and support workstations, hosted platforms, Microsoft Intune, virtual desktop infrastructure, and endpoint management processes for staff and public access environments.
- Administer and optimize Microsoft 365 services, including Entra ID, SharePoint, OneDrive, Exchange Online, Teams, and related security and compliance features.
- Follow change control processes and maintain technical, operational, and user-facing documentation to support stable updates, deployments, infrastructure changes, and Service Desk knowledge transfer.
- Collaborate with stakeholders, management, co-workers, vendors, and outside technical resources to define requirements, evaluate options, implement solutions, and support library services.
- Document and communicate technical plans, recommendations, risks, benefits, and project updates clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Provide escalation support, guidance, training, and knowledge transfer to Service Desk and technical team members.
- Manage multiple projects and assignments while meeting timelines, budgets, quality standards, and organizational priorities.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Four to five years of recent technology engineering experience, including project planning, implementation, documentation, and operational support.
- Experience administering Microsoft Windows Active Directory in a multi-location environment supporting hundreds or thousands of devices and users.
- Experience administering Microsoft SCCM
- Experience administering Microsoft Intune for device enrollment, configuration profiles, compliance policies, application deployment, update management, reporting, and integration with Microsoft 365 and endpoint security tools.
- Experience with virtual desktop infrastructure or similar environments, including provisioning, application delivery, user experience, performance monitoring, troubleshooting, and coordination with networking, storage, security, and endpoint management services.
- Hands-on ability to implement, administer, and troubleshoot enterprise infrastructure, including workstations, hosted platforms, servers, DNS, DHCP, monitoring tools, and cloud-based environments.
- Experience with networking concepts and protocols.
- Experience with scripting and automation using PowerShell, VBScript, Perl/shell, JavaScript, or comparable tools.
- Knowledge of enterprise IT service management tools.

Pay: $70,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
