Duties
- Prepare treatment rooms and sterilize dental instruments following aseptic techniques to maintain infection control standards.
- Assist dentists chairside during various procedures such as restorations, endodontics, prosthodontics, and pediatric dentistry treatments.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays) while ensuring patient safety and compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Manage electronic medical records (EMR systems) like Dentrix or Eaglesoft accurately, including updating patient charts and medical history documentation.
- Conduct vital signs assessments and medical imaging when necessary to support comprehensive patient care.
- Support front desk operations by acting as a dental receptionist, scheduling appointments, and managing patient flow efficiently.
- Educate patients on dental terminology, post-treatment care instructions, and preventive practices to promote oral health awareness.
- Collaborate in four-handed dentistry techniques with the dentist to improve efficiency and comfort during procedures.
- Maintain knowledge of anatomy, dental terminology, and medical coding to ensure precise documentation and billing processes.
- Assist with advanced technology such as 3D scanners for diagnostics or treatment planning in general dentistry or specialized fields like prosthodontics.
Qualifications
- Valid certification as a Registered Dental Assistant with current licensure in the state or region.
- Proven experience working in a dental clinic environment with familiarity in general dentistry procedures.
- Proficiency in EMR systems such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft; experience with Epic is a plus.
- Strong understanding of infection control practices, aseptic technique, and sterilization protocols.
- Knowledge of dental radiography (X-ray) techniques and ability to operate medical imaging equipment safely.
- Ability to communicate effectively using dental terminology and medical terminology relevant to patient care.
- Experience supporting pediatric dentistry cases is highly desirable; familiarity with pediatric-specific equipment is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to perform chairside assisting efficiently while maintaining a positive patient experience.
