TITLE: Youth Development Professional (YDP) - School Based Department
REPORTS TO: Site Director
STATUS: Non-Exempt
JOB SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Site Director, a Youth Development Professional (YDP) plans, implements, and supervises high-quality programs and activities in structured, specialized program spaces. Programming includes Education, Social Recreation, Cultural Arts, Sports & Fitness, Outdoor Recreation, STEM, Leadership, and Healthy Lifestyles. The YDP serves as a positive role model while contributing to the overall success of the school site through collaboration, program development, relationship building, and the delivery of engaging, outcome-driven experiences for youth.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Prepare Youth for Success
· Coordinate, plan, and supervise programs that help youth discover personal interests and abilities.
· Provide guidance, mentoring, and individualized support to youth.
· Promote program participation and maintain accurate attendance.
· Provide homework assistance and engaging educational activities during Power Hour.
· Help youth develop leadership, teamwork, communication, and social-emotional skills.
Program Development and Implementation
· Develop and facilitate age-appropriate lesson plans aligned with BGCA curriculum.
· Create and adapt activities to meet diverse learning needs.
· Prepare materials and maintain organized program spaces.
· Contribute ideas for site programming, special events, and continuous improvement.
· Evaluate programming and member engagement through NYOI, YPQA and Pulse Check support.
Supervision & Safety
· Ensure member safety and maintain appropriate supervision at all times.
· Inspect program areas daily or any safety precautions prior to youth entering area.
· Follow all Boys & Girls Club and OCFS policies and procedures.
· Respond promptly to incidents and communicate concerns to the Site Director.
· Maintain clean, safe, and organized learning environments.
Additional Responsibilities
· Participate in staff meetings, in-person and virtual training.
· Participate in special events outside of site hours when needed,
· Demonstrate a high standard of professionalism, initiative, communication, and teamwork.
· Complete OCFS documentation in a timely manner.
· Build positive relationships with members, colleagues, supervisors, parents, school staff, and community partners.
· Other duties as assigned.
RELATIONSHIPS:
Internal: Maintains close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club youth, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines and instructions; instruct; and advise/counsel.
External: Support external contact as instructed with community groups, schools, member’s parents, public stakeholders and others as directed by supervisor. Maintain a good reputation and moral conduct outside of work, in the community and on social media networks.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position may involve lifting, bending, standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, reaching, and grasping. Work is performed indoors and outdoors in youth-centered environments with moderate exposure to noise.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
· High School Diploma or GED required.
· Associate degree or higher preferred or minimum of two years of experience working with youth in education, recreation, or youth development preferred.
· Ability to plan and facilitate engaging programming.
· Strong classroom, behavioral management and communication skills.
· Ability to motivate youth and build positive relationships.
· Ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment.
· CPR and First Aid certification preferred or required within six months.
· Bilingual a Plus (English/Spanish)
