Department: Line Cook
Reports to: Job Group Manager, General Manager, Manager on Duty
Typical Work Week: 25-40 hours
Position Summary: The line cooks primary responsibility is to ensure menu items are prepared to guest’s order specifications and finalizes plate presentation, adhering to all safety, sanitation, and food handling guidelines.
Major Responsibilities: Primary duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.
- Ensure menu items are prepared to guest’s order specifications.
- Finalizes plate presentation.
- Displays depth of food knowledge.
- Knowledge of cooking procedures.
- Able to work in a high pace and hot environment.
- Ensure dishes are prepared in a timely manner by continuously restocking ingredients at their workstation.
- Perform portion control and minimize waste to keep costs within forecasted range.
- Able to prepare food according to the food handler’s guidelines.
- Label and date all food stored & rotate food, as needed.
- Ensure quality and freshness of ingredients and products.
- Maintain a clean workstation area, including kitchen equipment, tables, shelves, and coolers.
- Able to do repetitive work.
- Follow opening and closing procedures.
Essential Physical Requirements:
- Walks and stands during the entire shift.
- Continuously reach, bend, carry, stoop and wipe.
- Remain stationary for long periods of time.
- Frequent washing of hands following Health Department Guidelines.
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Dangers may include, but are not limited to slipping, tripping, falling, and cuts.
- Cooks may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, hazardous materials, loud noise, etc.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
- Specific sensory abilities required by this job include sight, taste, smell, and hearing.
Knowledge, Skills & Requirements:
- Physical ability to lift 50 lbs.
- The physical ability to balance heavy items.
- Stand and walk for long periods of time.
- Previous restaurant experience is highly preferred.
- Able to communicate with Prep Cooks & Wait staff.
- The ability to stay calm and work efficiently under pressure.
- Knowledge of equipment and being able to report to managers when something is broken or needs repair.
- Understand cooking methods, cooking procedures, and knife handling skills.
- The ability to perform tasks with accuracy, speed, and attention to detail.
- Be able to self-motivate in work environment
- Keep a clean, stocked and tidy workspace.
- The ability to follow written or verbal instructions.
