Bookkeeper / Staff Accountant (Non-Profit)

We are a faith-based Christian nonprofit organization dedicated to serving others through ministry, outreach, and support of charitable organizations. In addition to managing our own operations, we provide accounting and administrative support to several small nonprofit organizations, allowing them to focus on fulfilling their missions.
We are seeking a detail-oriented, dependable, and mission-driven Bookkeeper / Staff Accountant to join our team. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with multiple organizations, values accuracy and integrity, and desires to use their professional skills in a Christian ministry environment.
Position Summary
The Bookkeeper / Staff Accountant will be responsible for the day-to-day bookkeeping and financial recordkeeping for our organization and several small nonprofit clients. These organizations generally have a low monthly transaction volume, but each requires accurate financial reporting, proper recordkeeping, and compliance with nonprofit accounting standards.
The ideal candidate will have experience with nonprofit accounting, IRS Form 990 preparation, corporate reporting, and a strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
Primary Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate financial records for multiple nonprofit organizations.
- Process accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank deposits, and monthly reconciliations.
- Record journal entries and maintain general ledgers.
- Prepare monthly financial statements and management reports.
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and financial forecasts.
- Prepare documentation for annual audits and financial reviews.
- Assist with the preparation and review of IRS Form 990 filings.
- Maintain donor-restricted fund accounting and ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards.
- Prepare reports for boards of directors, management, and regulatory agencies.
- Maintain corporate records and assist with required annual state filings.
- Coordinate with outside CPAs and auditors.
- Ensure timely payment of bills and accurate recordkeeping.
- Recommend and implement improvements to accounting procedures and internal controls.
- Perform other accounting and administrative duties as assigned.
QualificationsRequired
- Minimum of 3 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience.
- Experience using accounting software such as QuickBooks Online or similar.
- Strong understanding of bookkeeping principles and financial reporting.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple organizations simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- High level of integrity, discretion, and confidentiality.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
Preferred
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Experience working with nonprofit organizations.
- Experience preparing or supporting IRS Form 990 filings.
- Experience with nonprofit fund accounting.
- Experience preparing board and corporate financial reports.
- Knowledge of charitable contribution reporting and nonprofit compliance.
- CPA or CPA-track candidates are encouraged to apply.
