Purpose:
The CDL Driver is responsible for the safe, timely, and accurate transportation of seafood products between Pier Fish Company facilities, cold storage locations, airports, and customer sites. This role plays a critical part in maintaining product integrity, ensuring compliance with food safety and transportation standards, and supporting overall operational efficiency. The CDL Driver is expected to uphold the company’s core values of Quality, Service, and Adaptability while providing reliable delivery service and maintaining strong communication with internal teams. This position requires a valid commercial Class A driver's license and the ability to drive both regional and local routes. This role may also require weekend availability based on business demands. This is a local driving position, and the candidate will return home daily.
Responsibilities:
- Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures, as well as all applicable transportation and food safety regulations to ensure compliance at all times.
- Safely operate company vehicles to transport products between facilities, cold storage locations, airports, and customer sites.
- Maintain a safe driving record and operate all vehicles in accordance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
- Obey all federal, state, and local laws and regulations governing the operation of commercial vehicles.
- Execute all deliveries accurately and within established delivery windows, ensuring adherence to cut-off times and customer requirements.
- Communicate promptly and effectively with dispatchers, management, and the Dock Lead regarding delivery status, issues, delays, discrepancies, or questions.
- Properly load, unload, secure, and stabilize cargo using required equipment, including load bars (mandatory), to prevent shifting, damage, or injury during transit.
- Verify shipment details at both pickup and delivery, including case counts, pallet counts, manifests, and product temperatures to ensure accuracy and quality standards.
- Confirm that shipment contents match the Bill of Landing (BOL) and ensure all products are properly secured prior to transport.
- Inspect all shipments for visible damage or temperature deviations; document findings and report issues immediately in accordance with company procedures.
- Accurately complete and process all required documentation, including Bills of Lading (BOLs), Proof of Pickup (POP), receiving records, mileage logs, fuel usage, and customer signatures.
- Maintain accurate records of cargo, mileage, and fuel consumption in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
- Perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure equipment is in safe and proper working condition; complete inspection reports and promptly report any maintenance or safety concerns.
- Maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of assigned vehicle, including routine interior and exterior cleaning to support food safety standards.
- Participate in scheduled weekend rotation coverage, including deliveries and airport pickups, as required to support business needs.
- Ensure timely completion of late or after-hours pickup or deliveries as directed by management or the Dock Lead.
- Provide professional, courteous, and service-oriented interactions with customers, vendors, and internal teams at all times.
Requirements:
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Class A
- Ability to read, write and communicate in English
- 2+ years proven experience in commercial truck driving preferred.
- Clean driving record.
- Proficient using GPS, map reading and route planning experience.

Physical Requirements:
- Ability for lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs. regularly, occasional heavier lifting with assistance.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and climb in and out of vehicles frequently.
- Ability to work in varying temperature environments, including refrigerated and freezer conditions.
Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned by Shipping & Receiving Manager or Dock Lead.
Required Qualifications:
- Prior delivery driving experience, preferably in food distribution or refrigerated transport, is a plus.
- Ability to operate a CDL Class A commercial vehicle safely and efficiently.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and product handling.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet delivery schedules.
- Basic understanding of safety, GMP, and food handling practices preferred.
Work Environment:
- Primarily field-based, operating company vehicles for deliveries and pickups.
- Frequent exposure to cold storage/freezer environments and loading dock conditions.
- Interaction with warehouse personnel, drivers, customers, and airport cargo staff.
Schedule Expectations
- Full-time position with early morning start times based on delivery schedules.
- Participation in a weekend rotation required.
- Flexibility to support late or after-hours pickups and deliveries as needed.
