POSITION SUMMARY:
The Materials & Inventory Control Supervisor is responsible for the daily operation of the shipping, receiving, warehouse, and material movement functions. This position ensures materials are received accurately, inventory transactions are completed correctly, customer shipments leave on schedule, and all activities comply with quality, safety, government, and customer requirements.
This position reports to the Production Control & Logistics Manager.
PREREQUISITES:
Excellent computer skills with experience in MRP and electronic inventory management required. Minimum of five years related Materials Control experience plus inventory control experience preferred. Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
High School education required. College education preferred.
Forklift experience required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Shipping & Receiving Operations:
· Supervise daily shipping and receiving activities to ensure accurate, damage-free movement of materials.
· Ensure customer shipments are completed accurately and on schedule.
· Coordinate LTL, truckload, expedited, and parcel freight.
· Prepare shipping documentation, including Bills of Lading.
· Verify incoming materials against purchase orders and coordinate inspection routing.
· Establish receiving priorities with Production Control and Purchasing.
Inventory & Warehouse Management:
· Maintain accurate inventory through timely ERP transactions.
· Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies.
· Maintain warehouse organization, inventory locations, and FIFO practices.
· Support cycle counts, material traceability, and inventory relocations.
· Ensure kit pulls and material staging support production schedules.
· Prioritize material movement to meet production requirements.
Leadership & Supervision:
· Supervise shipping, receiving, warehouse personnel, material handlers, and forklift operators.
· Schedule work assignments and staffing.
· Cross-train employees to improve departmental flexibility.
· Coach employees on safety, quality, and departmental procedures.
· Monitor employee performance and provide ongoing guidance.
ERP & Documentation:
· Process receipts and shipment transactions.
· Maintain accurate inventory records and location data.
· Correct inventory transaction errors.
· Generate reports to support inventory and shipping operations.
Compliance & Continuous Improvement:
· Ensure compliance with customer, ISO/AS9100, DFARS, OSHA, and hazardous material requirements.
· Identify and implement improvements that increase inventory accuracy, warehouse efficiency, receiving turnaround time, and shipping performance.
· Support company quality, safety, and continuous improvement initiatives.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Lifts and/or carries 20 pounds regularly. Lifts up to 50 lbs when doing work of subordinates. Reaches for drawings, tools, and supplies. Walks to obtain parts and supplies. Sits while doing VE/paperwork. Stands 60% of day. Visually inspects materials, parts, and completed work of subordinates and received materials. Reads, compiles, computes, and enters data into VE. Confers with other Supervisors and gives written and oral instructions to subordinates. Drives forklift and company truck as required.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Works 70% inside and 30% outside. Exposed to noise generated by punch presses, saws, and milling machines when inside and the normal weather pattern when outside. Majority of work outside is performed underneath the enclosed loading dock. Exposed to hot temperatures in the plant during the summer months and exposed to colder temperatures in the plant during the winter months.
EQUIPMENT USED:
PC, keyboard, monitor, calculator, copier, pens, card files, standard manual files, forklift, pallet lift, packaging materials, blocks and braces, Company vehicle, and other material handling equipment as required.
