The Opportunity
The Cardiac Stress Test Technician performs treadmill and pharmacologic cardiac stress testing procedures for patients within a private cardiology practice, working under the direction of the supervising cardiologist and the Nuclear Medicine Technologist Supervisor. This individual ensures each study is performed safely, accurately, and in accordance with physician-defined protocols and established clinical guidelines.
The Technician plays a critical role in patient safety and diagnostic quality, monitoring patients throughout each procedure, recognizing and escalating abnormal findings, and maintaining stress testing equipment and emergency response readiness at all times.

Cardiac Stress Testing
● Perform treadmill (exercise) and pharmacologic stress testing procedures in accordance with physician orders and established protocols.
● Obtain relevant patient history, explain the procedure, and answer patient questions prior to testing.
● Apply ECG electrodes and leads correctly; verify signal quality and troubleshoot artifact as needed.
● Monitor patient heart rate, blood pressure, ECG rhythm, and symptoms continuously throughout the procedure.
● Recognize signs of an abnormal or non-diagnostic study and escalate to the supervising physician immediately per protocol.
● Administer or assist with administration of pharmacologic stress agents under physician order and direct supervision, as permitted by scope of practice and state regulation.
Equipment & Emergency Preparedness
● Operate, calibrate, and maintain stress testing and ECG equipment; report malfunctions promptly.
● Maintain and verify readiness of emergency response equipment and medications used during stress testing.
● Maintain current ACLS certification and participate in periodic emergency response drills and competency validation.
● Follow infection control, safety, and equipment cleaning protocols between patients.
Documentation & Workflow
● Accurately document all stress test procedures, results, and observations in the EHR in a timely manner.
● Prepare completed studies for physician interpretation, ensuring all required data and documentation are complete.
● Assist with scheduling coordination and patient flow to support on-time completion of the daily CST schedule.
● Communicate any workflow delays, scheduling conflicts, or equipment issues to the Nuclear Medicine Technologist Supervisor.
Compliance & Quality
● Adhere to all physician-defined stress testing protocols and applicable clinical guidelines.
● Support quality assurance activities, including participation in chart audits and protocol compliance reviews.
● Maintain required certifications and complete continuing education as assigned.
Education
● High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
● Completion of an accredited cardiographic technician, stress testing, or allied health training program strongly preferred.
● Associate degree in a related allied health field a plus.
Experience
● Minimum of one (1) year of experience performing cardiac stress testing or related cardiovascular diagnostic procedures preferred.
● Experience in a cardiology, outpatient clinic, or hospital cardiac diagnostics setting preferred.
● Experience with EHR and cardiology imaging/workflow systems preferred.
● Equivalent combination of education, training, and professional experience will be considered.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
● Certification as a Cardiographic Technician (CCT) or Stress Test Technician preferred
● Current ACLS certification required
● Knowledge of ECG interpretation fundamentals
● Strong patient communication skills
● Attention to detail and accuracy under time pressure
● EHR and imaging workflow proficiency
● Ability to recognize and respond to clinical emergencies
● Understanding of HIPAA and patient confidentiality standards
● Comfortable operating diagnostic and monitoring equipment
● Ability to manage a fast-paced daily testing schedule
● Teamwork and cross-department coordination
● Basic Microsoft Office proficiency
