RN – Med Surg/Telemetry – Nights

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) – Med Surg/Telemetry for an 18-week travel contract on the 4th Floor Med/Surg Unit. This is a fast-paced, clinically diverse unit caring for adult and geriatric patients with cardiac, oncology, and stepdown-level needs.
The RN will provide comprehensive, evidence-based nursing care, monitor patients closely for changes in condition, administer medications and specialized therapies, and collaborate with physicians and the interdisciplinary care team to ensure safe, high-quality patient outcomes.
This position is ideal for an experienced Med Surg/Tele RN who is comfortable caring for higher-acuity patients and confidently interpreting cardiac rhythms.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive initial and ongoing patient assessments.
- Develop, implement, prioritize, and evaluate individualized plans of care.
- Monitor patients for changes in clinical condition and respond rapidly to changes in status.
- Administer medications safely according to state regulations and hospital policies.
- Monitor cardiac rhythms and recognize dysrhythmias.
- Manage patients requiring telemetry and stepdown-level care.
- Care for patients receiving cardiac drips, including Cardizem, heparin, amiodarone, and nitroglycerin.
- Manage patients with chest tubes, Foley catheters, and other lines/drains.
- Monitor patients receiving oxygen therapy, including BiPAP, CPAP, nasal cannula, and high-flow oxygen.
- Perform hemodynamic monitoring and other advanced nursing interventions as appropriate.
- Collaborate with physicians, PCTs, monitor technicians, HUCs, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
- Provide patient and family education and act as a patient advocate.
- Maintain patient safety, privacy, and infection-control standards.
- Demonstrate sound clinical judgment and remain calm and adaptable in emergency situations.
- Provide compassionate, culturally responsive, relationship-based care.

Important: RN must be able to confidently read and interpret cardiac rhythm strips. A dysrhythmia examination is required during orientation.

Required Qualifications
- Active RN license in the state of practice or compact RN license
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience in Med Surg/Telemetry
- Current BLS
- ACLS
- NIHSS
- Ability to interpret cardiac rhythm strips
- Experience caring for adult and geriatric patients
- Strong clinical judgment and ability to work in a high-acuity environment
Preferred Qualifications
- BSN
- PCCN
- CCRN
- Previous acute-care hospital experience
- EPIC/EHR experience
- Critical care or stepdown experience
