Position Summary
We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to architect and develop complex mixed-signal electrical systems used in ruggedized, high-performance hardware applications. This position will lead electrical design activities from concept through implementation, including schematic development, component selection, PCB layout oversight, electrical analysis and hardware qualification.
The ideal candidate will have experience developing complex hardware products for applications such as counter-unmanned aircraft systems, defense, satellite communications, robotics, aerospace or wireless communication systems.
This is a mostly remote position. Candidates must be available to travel to Sterling, Virginia a few days per month for onsite collaboration, testing and hardware integration.
Responsibilities
- Architect and design complex mixed-signal electrical systems focused on modularity, performance and ruggedized operation
- Lead the development of scalable hardware platforms integrating high-speed digital, analog and power electronics
- Develop FPGA-based architectures and analog sensor interfaces
- Design high-integrity power delivery systems for power-dense hardware
- Own schematic development from initial concept through implementation
- Select electrical components based on performance, reliability and system requirements
- Oversee PCB layout and ensure the design intent is properly implemented
- Evaluate signal integrity, power integrity and EMI/EMC performance
- Perform electrical analysis and simulation to support first-pass hardware success
- Analyze thermal behavior and electrical performance of high-speed systems
- Support system integration, troubleshooting, hardware testing and qualification
- Collaborate with mechanical, firmware, software and systems engineering teams
- Provide technical leadership throughout the full hardware development lifecycle
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field
- Senior-level experience designing and integrating complex hardware products
- Strong experience with schematic capture and PCB development
- Proficiency with Altium Designer
- Experience overseeing PCB layout for high-speed and power-dense systems
- Expertise in digital, power and RF engineering
- Experience developing mixed-signal hardware
- Experience with software-defined radios
- Strong knowledge of signal integrity and power integrity
- Experience applying EMI/EMC mitigation techniques
- Knowledge of applicable electrical testing and hardware qualification methods
- Ability to travel to Sterling, Virginia a few days per month
- U.S. Citizenship required due to ITAR regulations
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with counter-unmanned aircraft systems or cUAS technology
- Experience with defense, Satcom, robotics, aerospace or wireless systems
- Experience with FPGA-based hardware architectures
- Experience designing ruggedized electronics
- Experience using simulation tools for signal integrity, power integrity, EMI/EMC or thermal analysis
- Experience leading hardware development from concept through production
