Duties
- Assist dentists during a variety of treatment procedures, including restorative, endodontic, prosthodontic, oral surgery, and pediatric dentistry cases, using four-handed dentistry techniques.
- Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing dental instruments according to infection prevention management protocols and ensuring all equipment is functioning properly.
- Take high-quality dental x-rays and medical imaging while adhering to dental sterilization procedures and aseptic techniques to maintain clinical confidentiality policies.
- Manage patient records efficiently using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems such as Dentrix or Epic, including updating medical documentation, coding procedures accurately, and maintaining medical records securely in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Perform vital signs assessments and document findings accurately to assist in comprehensive patient evaluations.
- Support the dental reception process by scheduling appointments, verifying insurance information, and managing patient flow smoothly.
- Maintain a clean, organized clinical environment by processing dental instruments, adhering to infection control standards, and ensuring all clinical areas meet healthcare infection prevention and control guidelines.
- Assist with dental instrument processing, sterilization procedures, and inventory management to ensure all supplies are available for daily operations.
- Educate patients on oral hygiene practices and post-treatment care instructions to promote ongoing oral health.
Qualifications
- Valid certification as a Registered Dental Assistant with current licensure or registration as required by state law.
- Proven experience in general dentistry with a strong background in pediatric dentistry preferred.
- Proficiency with EMR systems such as Dentrix or Epic; experience with Eaglesoft is a plus.
- Knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, medical terminology, and dental assisting best practices.
- Ability to operate dental x-ray machines safely and accurately; certification in dental x-ray is required.
- Familiarity with infection prevention management, aseptic technique, and sterilization procedures in a clinical setting.
- Strong understanding of healthcare infection prevention and control policies along with medical coding standards.
- Excellent communication skills as a dental receptionist; capable of providing compassionate patient care while managing administrative tasks efficiently.
- Ability to work effectively within a team environment utilizing four-handed dentistry techniques for optimal patient outcomes.
