We are currently seeking a Technical Theater Educator starting in Fall 2026 at an independent school in Brooklandville, MD.
Responsibilities of Technical Theater Educator:
- Oversee scenic design, construction, rigging, shop safety, and student crews for theatre, dance, music, and school performances.
- Teach several upper school technical theater courses, including scenic, lighting, and sound design each semester.
- Collaborate with Technical Director on production schedules and implementation.
- Supervise and mentor students in technical theater disciplines, including set construction, lighting design, sound, and stage management.
- Expand student skillset in scenic construction, woodworking, props construction, scenic painting, stagecraft, shop safety and basic theatrical design.
- Mentor and oversee students in technical theater activities, emphasizing safety procedures and proper equipment use.
Requirements of Technical Theater Educator:
- Bachelor's degree in Theater, Technical Theater, Theater Design, Education, or related field required. Master's degree preferred.
- Previous experience with set design, sound, lighting, and/or stage management required.
- Experience with woodworking, scenery fabrication, and stagecraft.
- Previous K-12 theater teaching experience strongly preferred.
- Extensive knowledge of technical theater, theater equipment, and best practices.
- Ability to build sets for theater productions.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
Additional Desired Qualities:
- Interest to contribute to school community outside of the classroom as an athletic coach, student advisor, or student club leader.

Pay: $50,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
