St. Nicks Alliance, founded in 1975, is a nonprofit non-sectarian community development corporation dedicated to the sustainability and revitalization of Northern Brooklyn through its work in five main areas: housing, healthcare, workforce development, economic development, and youth and education. The St. Nicks Alliance Division of Youth & Education serves 2,500 youth in northern Brooklyn through afterschool, summer, school-based, and internship programs as well as two Beacon community centers. St. Nicks Alliance is also the strategic partner of the School Settlement Association, Brooklyn’s oldest settlement house.

Job Description
The Youth and Education Department is seeking a dedicated Social Worker or Mental Health counselor to fill the Full-Time role of a Transformational Coach. Under the clinical guidance of the Assistant Director of Youth Clinical Services and the on-site support of the Community School Director, the Transformational Coach will provide trauma informed, and strengths based support for the students and school community at Williamsburg High School of Arts and Technology. A Transformational Coach provides holistic support to children and their families to achieve short and long-term transformational change.
The Transformational Coach will be a critical part of the Community School team, working closely alongside St Nicks staff as well as school personnel to provide whole-child support. The Transformational Coach will provide targeted interventions including: direct 1:1 counseling services, small group counseling as well as workshops, crisis intervention; socio-emotional enrichment activities, advocacy, and case management support to families looking to gain employment, affordable housing and obtain necessary community based referrals. Additionally, the Transformational Coach will be responsible for collaborating with the school wellness team to develop and facilitate appropriate and relevant school-wide wellness programs and initiatives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
● Support a caseload of approximately 20 - 30 children, providing age-appropriate support and interventions to meet and respond to the social, emotional and mental health needs of students.
● Provide culturally competent, trauma-informed individual and group counseling services
● Develop youth action plans for all students, with clear and measurable goals
● Facilitate group workshops and enrichment activities that promote socio-emotional development, self awareness, and resilience
● Offer crisis intervention and behavior management support, providing immediate de-escalation as needed as well as supporting program staff with developing sustainable student re-entry and re-engagement plans
● Develop and support with staff training within the scope of child development and basic emotion regulation skills
● Identify and provide necessary internal as well as external referrals to students and their families with appropriate case management support as needed
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
● Collaborate with site leadership, support staff and key school personnel to conduct comprehensive needs assessments to identify students who will be receiving supportive services
● Participate in necessary case conferences with school and program leadership to review progress and align on appropriate student interventions
● Build strong, collaborative relationships with students and their families
● Develop collaborative partnerships with school staff, afterschool program staff, and external partners to increase access to community resources and referrals
● Responsible for collaborating with the school wellness team to develop school-wide wellness programs and initiatives such as resource fairs, health & vision screenings, etc
● Serve as a mandated reporter, ensuring timely and appropriate action following agency crisis and safety protocols
● Represent St. Nicks Alliance at community school meetings, staff meetings, and agency collaborations as needed
Data, Reporting & Compliance
● Conduct intake assessments with students and their families
● Maintain accurate and timely attendance as well as case notes using the organization’s Efforts to Outcomes (ETO) system.
● Conduct and document relevant SEL (Social Emotional Learning) assessments to track impact & progress
● Collect and utilize performance data to continuously improve services and demonstrate impact.
● Ensure all services meet funder requirements and organizational quality standards.
● Actively contribute to division-wide leadership meetings and learning communities.
What We Are Looking For:
● Master’s Degree in social work, mental health counseling, psychology, or related field
● Licensed or license-eligible (LMSW, LMHC, LCSW, or equivalent)
● Minimum 1-2 years of experience providing counseling support services to high-school aged youth in a school or community-based setting
● Deep understanding of trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and strength-based practices
● Proven ability to build trusting relationships with students, families, and school staff
● Strong documentation, data entry, and case management skills.
● Excellent communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills
● Strong relationship-building and group facilitation capabilities, incorporating cross-cultural sensitivity.
Preferred
● Experience facilitating socio-emotional groups and workshops
● Familiarity with NYC schools and community resources
● Bilingual (Spanish) strongly preferred
Specifications for Physical Requirements
● This is an in-person position, with capacity for remote work during school holiday breaks.
● Ability to travel to multiple sites within the agency, as needed.
● Staff may need to lift materials (up to 20 pounds), such as books, supplies, or equipment for programming activities.
● Staff will be on their feet, walking up stairs, standing or walking for extended periods as needed during programming and moving through the school facilities.
● Frequent movement around the program space is essential for effectively working with and observing program participants and fostering an active and engaging environment for students
