Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced Staff Accountant to support our accounting and operations teams through accurate job‑cost tracking, payroll processing, expense coding, and financial analysis. This position works closely with and supports the Controller in all aspects of the accounting function, gaining exposure to higher-level financial processes and decision-making in a multi-company environment. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and eager to grow within the accounting function.
Key Responsibilities
· Assist the Controller with month-end close activities including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and cost reviews.
· Support process of weekly and bi-weekly payroll for field and office employees, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies and state/federal regulations.
· Review, code, and enter accounts payable invoices, expenses, and credit card transactions with proper job and cost-code allocations.
· Assist with month-end closing activities including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and cost reviews.
· Maintain and update cost codes, cost categories, and project budgets as needed.
· Work closely with project managers and operations leadership to provide financial insight into project performance.
· Monitor labor, material, subcontractor, and equipment costs for accuracy and completeness.
· Support audits, reporting requests, and internal process improvement initiatives.
· Ensure compliance with accounting standards and company policies.
· Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
· Required:
· Associate degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or related field.
· 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a cost-focused role.
· Strong understanding of expense coding, reconciliations, and general ledger processes.
· Payroll processing experience.
· Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
· Highly Preferred:
· Cost accounting construction experience highly preferred.
· Experience with job cost–based accounting systems (e.g., Foundation, Sage, Viewpoint, or similar).
· Knowledge of construction payroll, certified payroll, or multi-state payroll processes.
