FOREMAN — NORCAL EXTERIOR
Location: Samoa, CA | Pay: $30–$42/hour (based on experience) | Type: Full-time, Year-round
ABOUT THIS ROLE
We're NorCal Exterior — a general construction company specializing in windows, siding, and doors in Humboldt County. We build above code and we do things the right way the first time. From time to time we take on ADUs and bathroom remodels, mainly in the winter months.
We're a small crew, and we're building toward a multi-team operation. That means this is a great opportunity to grow with our company. The person we hire will work directly with me, Byron Stocum (owner), to help build the systems and culture that will define this company for years to come. You'll have year-round work, a clear path to grow within the company, and a crew that takes care of its people. We offer mileage reimbursement, educational stipend, retirement access, paid sick time, and a discounted gym membership — because we believe the people doing the work deserve to be treated well.
If you've got serious carpentry experience, you've already proven you can lead, you're self-motivated, and you take full ownership of every project you touch — we want to talk.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
- Running jobs from start to finish
- Driving trailers to jobsites and managing logistics
- Picking up materials and coordinating supply runs
- Communicating with clients, handling daily concerns, and leading final walk-throughs
- Managing crew dynamics, morale, and performance
- Solving day to day on-site problems quickly and making good calls
- Helping clients post positive reviews when the job earns it
- Mentoring junior leaders and crew members
- Tracking site data accurately and maintaining safety records
- Documenting work being done for future use for the client and for marketing
You're the person we trust to own a project completely — from first day on-site to final sign-off.
This will be a gradual process with guidance and on site learning as we learn to build trust with each other.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Real carpentry experience and a proven track record leading jobs
- You consistently deliver on or under labor and material budgets
- Strong problem-solving skills — you make good calls on the spot
- You manage crew dynamics and keep morale high without being told to
- You show consistent craftsmanship and take pride in the details
- You communicate clearly with clients and your team
- Spotless safety and cleanliness records on every jobsite
- 90%+ of your jobs earn five-star reviews from clients
- You show up professionally every day, ready to lead
- You're always working to get better — as a builder and as a leader
- You're open to feedback that makes the work better and sharpens your skills
WHAT YOU'LL GET
This is stable, year-round work with a crew that's serious about the trade — and serious about the people doing it.
Year-round work
No seasonal layoffs. We keep busy through windows, siding, doors, and winter remodel projects. You can plan your life around a steady paycheck.
Educational stipend
Up to $1,000/year toward trade courses, certifications, or manufacturer training — available after your first 90 days. We invest in your growth beyond the jobsite.
Mileage reimbursement at the IRS rate
72.5¢/mile for 2026. Your vehicle is a tool — we treat it that way. Every work mile gets reimbursed.
CalSavers retirement plan
Access to California's state-sponsored retirement savings program. Simple to enroll, automatic contributions, yours to keep.
5 paid sick days per year
After your probation period. You shouldn't have to choose between your health and your paycheck. We cover you when you need it.
Discounted gym membership
Through HealthSport. This work is physical. Staying strong and healthy isn't a luxury — it's part of doing the job well long-term.
A path to grow within the company
We're a small crew now and building toward multiple crews and a full project management structure. If you want to move into a project manager position or perhaps estimating, this is where that starts. We're already developing this track internally.
A crew that respects the work
Small team, high standards. We all know each other. We all work hard and we build a tight bond here within our crew. The owner knows your name, knows your work, and is invested in your success.
Health and safety you can count on
Cal/OSHA compliant jobsites, proper PPE, and a culture where safety is a non-negotiable.
OUR CULTURE
We work fast, we work smart, and we have fun doing it. We're built like a hotshot fire crew — hard working, high-performing, tight-knit, and proud of what we do. All while we’re having fun.
HOW TO APPLY
Submit your application with all three of the following:
1. Your resume— Where you've worked, what you've built, and what you've led. Plus anything else that may help you stand.
2. A photo or two — Show us a job you're proud of.
3. A short note — Tell us why you want to work with NorCal Exterior and what kind of crew member you are.
Applications without all three won't be considered. We're looking for people who follow through from the first step.
I look forward to work with you
