Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in social work, Human Services, Education, Public Health, or a related field OR equivalent professional and community experience

2+years of experience working with elementary and/or middle school youth in educational, community-based, or youth development settings.

Strong relationship-building and engagement skills with youth, families, community partners, and staff.

Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and program coordination skills.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to provide and receive constructive feedback.

Commitment to youth development, prevention services, and organizational values.

Availability to work Saturdays and occasional evenings as required.

Proficiency with documentation, data collection, and reporting requirements.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.

TB Test Clearance within the last two years, as required for programs located on school district sites.
Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Director of Youth & Families Programs, the Youth Program Specialist supports the development, coordination, and implementation of youth and family prevention service programs funded through the San Francisco Department of Public Health. This position is responsible for designing and facilitating student transition programs and leadership development opportunities that promote engagement, personal growth, and successful continuity between school-year and summer programming. This position works closely with students, families, school staff, and community partners to deliver workshops, support case management and prevention services, and ensure a holistic approach to meeting the needs of the school community while maintaining compliance with program, grant, and funding requirements.
Program Coordination & Service Delivery

Coordinate, facilitate, and implement evidence-based youth and family prevention service programs in alignment with grant, curriculum, contractual, and funding requirements.

Design and implement transition and leadership development programs that support student engagement, growth, and success.

Facilitate workshops, groups, activities, and prevention education sessions that promote positive youth development, family well-being, and community engagement.

Support Department of Public Health (DPH) programs through the facilitation of Strengthening Families Program (SFP), LifeSkills Training (LST), and other assigned prevention education sessions.
Family Support & Case Management

Conduct assessments and develop Family Service Plans using established intervention methods and techniques.

Provide ongoing support and referrals to youth and families as appropriate.

Participate in case management team meetings and carry out assigned follow-up actions and responsibilities.

Support participant recruitment, enrollment, retention, and engagement efforts to achieve program goals and outcomes.
Partnership Development & Community Engagement

Recruit, engage, and maintain positive relationships with students, families, school staff, community partners, and stakeholders. Collaborate with school partners, the school

Beacon program, and community-based organizations to enhance service delivery and participant outcomes.

Represent the program at required meetings and community events.
Program Operations & Compliance

Plan and manage program operations, logistics, schedules, deliverables, and participant activities.

Maintain accurate records, case files, attendance documentation, data collection systems, and required reports.

Complete and submit all required documentation and reporting accurately and within established timelines.

Ensure compliance with YMCA, San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD), Department of Public Health (DPH), grant, contractual, and agency standards.
Work Environment & Physical Demand
This position is primarily based in a school and community-based setting and requires regular interaction with youth, families, school personnel, and community partners. The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation, including the physical, visual, and auditory abilities necessary to facilitate programs, conduct meetings, complete documentation, and engage with participants.
This position may require standing, walking, sitting, speaking, hearing, and using standard office equipment for extended periods. Occasional lifting, carrying, or moving of program materials and supplies weighing up to 25 lbs. may be required.

Salary Description
The Youth Program Specialist position offers a compensation range of $27.00 - $33.00 per hour. This rate is based on salary benchmarking for similar roles and is aligned with grant fund approvals and requirements for the position.
