General Job Description
The responsibilities of this position are to assist certificated staff with instructional and non-instructional activities for special education students in the Specialized Resource Education Program. This position will include assisting students one on one and/or with small groups of students. General Descriptions and Responsibilities
- Assists with creating a supportive, warm, and welcoming environment for students.
- Assist and communicate with staff in maintaining records, logs, charts, assignments, and other records for assessment of student progress.
- Work effectively with staff as a team member
- Work efficiently, be flexible and organized.
- Assist students with a range of significant disabilities, physical needs, communication and/or behavior disorders; in mastering appropriate skills.
- Assist students in adjusting to school/program/area/classroom and establish appropriate standards of conduct; executing and monitoring behavior plans, and interventions as directed by certificated staff.
- Assist with a wide variety of academic assignments and/or instruction related to work in the classroom including technology-based programs.
- Assists in providing physical assistance to students, such as lifting, positioning, and transfers.
- Assists with health or personal hygiene needs, may include feeding, toileting, and use of adaptive equipment.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications – Education and Experience
- Ability and willingness to learn specific skills/techniques as directed to provide for the student’s educational needs and progress.
- Experience in working in a Life Skills program in individual and/or group setting preferred.
- Experience working with diverse populations.
- Knowledge of and/or the ability to learn and apply the Washington State 14 Core Competencies for paraprofessionals.
- First aid/AED/CPR certificate, and Type II Driver’s License training or willingness to obtain training of required.
- Physical ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
- Para Educators hired after January 8, 2002, must have (1) completed two years of study at an institution of higher education; (2) obtained an associate’s (or higher) degree; OR (3) met a rigorous standard of quality and be able to demonstrate, through a formal State or local academic assessment, knowledge of and the ability to assist in instruction reading, writing, and mathematics in order to be considered for a position.
Terms of Employment
- Five days/week; Monday – Friday; 6 hours/day
- Hourly rate of pay shall be $25.03/hr. based upon the 2025-2026 salary schedule (2026-2027 TBD)
- Benefits in accordance with the SEBB/Health Care Authority (Medical, Dental, Vision, LTD, Life insurance)
- For qualifying positions, employees are offered enrollment with the Washington State Retirement Plan
