American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Neurosciences (Med/Surg Neuro) night shift position in Cape Girardeau, MO, requiring at least 1 year of experience and charge nurse capability.

Neurosciences unit in a 245-bed Level 3 Emergency and Trauma Center, also designated as a Primary Stroke Center and Comprehensive Cardiac Center
-
Medical and surgical neurological patient population including Parkinson's, stroke, and lumbar cases — no trauma patients
-
17-bed unit with a 1:6 patient-to-nurse ratio
-
Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
-
Standard expectation of every other full weekend (Saturday and Sunday)

Floating required to Med/Surg and Progressive units per customary policy
-
No on-call requirements

EMR: Epic
-
Standard equipment including IV pumps
-
Active MO RN license or compact RN license required
-
Current BLS certification required; NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required (may be completed at orientation)

Minimum 1 year of recent Med/Surg Neuro RN experience
-
Charge nurse experience required, or willingness to take on charge duties
-
IV therapy competency including care for central lines
-
Valid U.S. Social Security Number required (Canadian SINs are not accepted)
-
No gaps in employment of 90+ days within the past 12 months
-
Certifications must not expire within the first 30 days of the assignment unless documented renewal is scheduled
-
Neuro and stroke experience is highly preferred
-
Black scrubs required
-
Flu vaccination is required for all travelers from November 1 through April 1; exemptions must be client-approved
-
Up to 5 days of requested time off (RTO) per 13-week contract is allowed and must be made up during the assignment

Candidates should expect to work at least one major summer holiday (Memorial Day, July 4th, or Labor Day) and/or one winter holiday (Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year's Day)

Candidates living within 50 miles of the facility are eligible but subject to a reduced bill rate
-
Local candidates within 50 miles are limited to 3 consecutive 13-week contracts before a 1-year separation or transfer to a facility outside the 50-mile radius is required

Candidates will attend a Neuroscience Nursing course as assigned by the nurse manager

Strong teamwork, communication skills, and a patient-centered approach are important for success on this unit
