FlexStaff is seeking a seasoned Controller to work permanently for one of our externa client, design-build architecture and construction firm based in Nassau County, NY.
In this role you will be overseeing the preparation of financial statements, monitoring cash flow, and providing financial guidance to the Principal Owner and other executives as well as assisting the upper management with strategic planning and decision-making to support the company's financial health and growth.
Requirements:
Minimum 10-15 years of experience in same or similar industry required.
Minimum 5 years of prior supervisory experience required.
Knowledge of Quickbooks, SAGE Intacct, MRI, ProCore
Key responsibilities

Oversee and evaluate the organization’s fiscal functions and financial performance.

Act as a strategic partner in corporate planning and program development.

Assess and advise on long‑range plans, new programs/strategies, and regulatory impacts.

Provide timely, accurate analysis of budgets, financial reports, and trends to senior leadership and the Board.

Develop, implement, and enforce financial policies, procedures, and systems to improve operations and effectiveness.

Build credibility across the organization by delivering practical financial solutions.

Provide technical financial guidance to the finance team and other departments.

Improve the budgeting process through education and collaboration with department managers.

Provide strategic financial input for organizational decision making.

Manage bank and deposit relationships and optimize cash position.

Develop reliable cash‑flow projections and reporting, including minimum cash thresholds.

Review and advise on contracts from a financial perspective.

Evaluate and enhance the finance division’s structure and team development.

Support other staff as needed, including coverage during absences.

Perform monthly bank reconciliations and resolve discrepancies promptly.

Ensure accuracy of all accounting outputs.

Manage and submit loan requests in accordance with requirements.

Provide financial data for insurance applications and support insurance audits.

Ensure compliance with company policies and applicable laws.

Maintain a professional, proactive work ethic and constructive communication with colleagues and customers.

Perform other duties or projects as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervise day‑to‑day activities of the Finance/Accounting team, including hiring, training, work assignment, performance appraisal, and disciplinary actions.

Communicate expectations and monitor performance to help achieve company quality goals.

Execute supervisory duties in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws.

Enforce and train staff on safety regulations.

Propose solutions and proactive plans to address problems and improve operations.
